Greetings,
First off, I wanted to thank everyone for such a great system that you
guys have put together. It just blows me away how much work has been put
into this project. From the install scripts for the OS and software to
the tuning software for levels and signals on the USB FOB. I was amazed
at how good the tuning scripts worked when I went through the radio tuning
setup. All I can say is "Unbelievable!" <GRIN>
I have a few questions, the first regarding the usbradio.conf file and one
of the configuration settings in that file.
I see this explanation in the usbradio.conf.sample file.
eeprom=1 ; 1 = Indicates that an EEPROM internal to the radio
I see this setting in my usbradio.conf file.
eeprom=0 ; unless you have a cable w/eeprom
Is this talking about the URI FOB with the eeprom in it?
Just got done with my install tonight and am using the URI FOB, should I
change this setting from a 0 to a 1? Or is this setting for something
else?
Also, when you get done doing the radio tuning procedure as documented by
Steve Henke in "The Asterisk with app_rpt Server Installation Process"
(page 7), and you save the configuration by using the CLI command "radio
tune save" , where does that file get saved to? The eeprom on the URI FOB?
Or somewhere else? Just wondering.

Steven (and list),
Is there no way to make the new app_rpt work without using the ISO
(for the new URI)?
I understand that the ISO is the path of least resistance but there
are some very serious security issues with FreePBX and who knows with
a 3rd party customized ISO?
I can post some known and working FreePBX exploits but I prefer to not
make it that easy.
My box is going to be on a routable IP (public) and I would prefer to
have my own kernel, distro, no-FreePBX, and other security measures.
In other words I want to lock it down as much as possible.
Any advice? I don't really understand why I cannot just SVN co
app_rpt and compile on an existing asterisk box.

Just an update, a few days after receiving the URI, I got a second
smaller package with the USB cables. I was impressed, most vendors
cut costs buy not providing USB cables (I hate that). Another thumbs
up for DMK.

Is there a reason why the new app_rpt (with URI support) is not being
merged with Digium's trunk? Maybe asteriskadd-ons if there are
licensing issues?
BTW, thanks for fixing the SVN checkout so the source can be obtained
without hacking the upgrade scripts.
Off Topic, but is there a cheap db25 to db25 that allows pinouts to be
changed by either opening the unit and screwing down wires or
something else. I found one for like $50 which is way too much but it
allows you to just use jumper wires on the outside of the unit and
then there is a plastic cover that goes over the connections.
I want something sturdy and good semi-outdoor use (shack)

We purchased a few of the DMK USB FOBs awhile back after homebrewing a few.
When I was down in Virginia at company HQ last month, I spent a few
nights trying to make this work to no avail. We have an old IFR service
monitor which I was using to generate tones and such. We?re using an
Icom commercial repeater IC-FR3000/4000. The Icom has no internal
controls for rx or txaudio that I can find (documentation is very slim).
Basically, rxtune doesn't want to work with the audio coming off the
Icom repeater discriminator. I did not try deemphasized audio as I want
to keep everything flat. In looking through some of the old posts we are
seeing similar results whereby rxtune doesn?t see anything.
But oddly enough, if I used the HT to generate DTMF tones, the * box
would detect them. The transmitted audio I could not get more than 2 or
2.5 kHz deviation with the audio coming out of the * box.
As a side note, when we were using the homebrew USB FOBs we had louder
digitally generated audio (didn?t have the service monitor then) than
repeated audio.
Got any ideas to try?

Leon,
Sounds like the flat output may be flat but only through 3 KHz and not up to
10 KHz where the noise is for carrier squelch.
The way to figure this out is to sample the audio through the USB adapter
into a utility like Audacity and use its FFT to see what the noise spectrum
looks like.
I'd be glad to help you do this by logging in, capturing the signal and
transfering to my lab for analysis. I can take the results and come up with
a configuration setting that will work for you.
Just let me know what you want to do.
