[App_rpt] DTMF processing?

So, after a little more troubleshooting this morning, I ran into the
following:

I had to change my funcchar to something other than * (because my
controller sees the * as local control and drops PTT towards the
other linked ports), I noticed that when I did, I was not able to
control the node (ran rpt reload under asterisk console). However,
once I changed it back to *, I was able to DTMF the node around..

On my other node, I have my funcchar set to a number instead of the *
and it works fine, what are the limitations to setting the funcchar
command under rpt.conf?

Thanks.
