(At least the ones I've played with). I use VM machines for some of the allstar and qrvc.com websites, so this is what I have discovered using a XEN-based version of Centos. Our install scripts (phase1.sh and phase2.sh) along with the sub-scripts expect yum to work correctly and yum is most likely disabled or crippled on VM distros to prevent someone from upgrading the kernel and other programs and thereby killing the VM instance. Supporting VM distros is a project in and of itself, and there is no automated script-based support available yet. VM-based distros currently do not all do things in a standard way. Everyone has their own modified distro, and until standardized versions become available, it does not make sense to proceed down with an automated install. People have installed app_rpt/asterisk on VM based system, but the process is manual. Maybe someone will chime in on their success story. I tried to install the VM using the ACID CD, but XEN does not allow me to select the CD as the installation point (it's grayed out)... More probing questions for my config files: I was reading through the rpt.conf.sample file I found, and while the memory usage for the TM-G707 remote that Jim NIL gave me was logical, I didn't see any examples of odd-split repeaters being used. Which, brings up my two-part question: Can non-standard split repeaters be loaded into the rpt.conf file? or, in the alternative: Can the G707 be commanded into its own memory mode, and a memory channel be selected to operate? The reason behind this is that I am trying to craft a macro which, when enabled for specific users, would allow the user to transmit and receive to a VHF MARS repeater. One with a very wide (+4 MHz) split. Any thoughts? Hey Jim I gave it another go today on a 64Bit 2.2GHz AMD laptop.. Worked fine.. I installed Centos 5.4 x86_64 version completed all centos updates.. rebooted (with updated kernel) Simply copied the files from and ACID install /etc/rc.d to the new system Ran phase2.sh Failed at first on asterisk compile but I took a wild guess and installed the alsa-devel package and all worked perfectly fine after that.. re-ran phase2.sh and have a a working system. Still have the same audio issues that I have reported previously in other threads.. and will continue to work at that. :-) If you'd like any further info or still need to take a look at my working system on Centos 5.4 64 bit please let me know.. Thanks you for your offer to help in getting it to compile.. That one went far to easy... I'm still struggling a bit with kernel issues so I can give Dave's audio fixes a try.. :-( Mostly due to limited time I have not been successful at getting a working kernel built from scratch yet that will properly see and mount the ACID installed filesystem without a kernel panic. If someone wants to offer support other than us, that is OK, but this project does not have the developer resources to support every conceivable sound card which is what this would entail. There was a real good reason to limit support to 1 or 2 radio interfaces! The radio interface hardware could then be controlled as a known quantity. This has been our philosophy since the project began. Supporing the IRLP board is not a simple prospect. The IRLP board is not the only peice of the puzzle. The IRLP board depends on a sound card, and this sound card can be anything. Although sound cards and IRLP interfaces are what folks have, and these folks don't want to invest in a whole new radio interface due to the added costs, the developers feel that this is too much of a burden on them and therefore have no inclination to open up support for every sound card out there. As there is already software which supports sound cards and IRLP boards (and a bunch of Echolink interfaces), such as thelinkbox, perhaps improving the integration batween Asterisk and this sort of software would be worth doing. I'd certainly like to be able to integrate Asterisk smoothly with my linkbox based systems. The chan_rtpdir driver went a long way to doing this, but it had a few limitations, like being stuck with the GSM codec. I'm sure if a better interface was developed, Skip would be happy to support it in thelinkbox and thebridge. I know chan_echolink or chan_irlp could be used to make an audio link, but on some configurations, that requires some careful scripting to treat the internal link to Asterisk separately from any conventional IRLP or Echolink connections. 73 de VK3JED / VK3IRL http://vkradio.com From Ramesh at va3uv.com Tue Dec 8 19:29:51 2009 From: Ramesh at va3uv.com (Ramesh Dhami (VA3UV)) Date: Tue, 08 Dec 2009 14:29:51 -0500 Subject: [App_rpt-users] usbradio similar driver with non usb In-Reply-To: <4b1ea80a.22a0100a.5ce4.ffff889e@mx.google.com> References: <20091208175633.JMJB19147.dukecmfep06.coxmail.com@dukecmimpo01.coxmail.com> <4b1ea80a.22a0100a.5ce4.ffff889e@mx.google.com> Message-ID: <4B1EA92F.9010703@va3uv.com> Tony Langdon, VK3JED wrote: > At 04:56 AM 12/9/2009, hwstar at rodgers.sdcoxmail.com wrote: > >> Although sound cards and IRLP interfaces are what folks have, and >> these folks don't want to invest in a whole new radio interface due >> to the added costs, the developers feel that this is too much of a >> burden on them and therefore have no inclination to open up support >> for every sound card out there. > > As there is already software which supports sound cards and IRLP > boards (and a bunch of Echolink interfaces), such as thelinkbox, > perhaps improving the integration batween Asterisk and this sort of > software would be worth doing. I am new too, but thought I would answer since there is not much on this topic and it is one I am interested in. I am just starting up a new linux system here with an old Dell 2650 server PC. My USB fobs do not seem to work with the ports on the back of the machine (one did, sort-of, briefly). On the front of the machine 3 of the 4 fobs work. If you pry off the covers, sometimes you can read the chip number my CM108 devices were in fact CM109's However, while 3 of them were in molded chip packages, one of them is in a "blob" with no discernable markings. On plug-in, the three that work say: ID 0d8c:000c C-Media Electronics, Inc Audio Adapter The one that does not work says: ID 0c76:1607 JMTek, LLC So it may be that the problem is not the 108 versus 109 but rather the vendor. By work, I mean the green light comes on and then starts flashing. If I have CLI running I get a "notice" about no EPROM installed - which is correct. The TUNE routine runs. By not work, I mean that the green light just stays on and the TUNE routine returns a no active fob message. If you look into the usbradio C code, the program is looking for the C-Media vendor and product ID. Not sure what would happen if you went into the code and changed the numbers so that they match the JMTek. It might get you going. Let everyone know, if you do. GL Ken The JMTek one has the peculiar characteristic of flashing the red light really brightly when powered up. I have some brushing up and getting up to date to do on this as my last few attempts have not produced a working kernel yet.. I need to be able to do this in order to at least try the semi-fixes that Dave suggests by using his modified code as well as using relaxed DTMF decoding... I've thoroughly convinced myself that there are issues with intermittent dropouts / intermittent choppy audio on all systems I have tested regardless of CPU speed motherboard chipset, integrated video/USB etc. etc. I will update when I have a chance to try my custom kernels and Dave's posted fixes For anyone questioning these dropout issues I'd be happy to work with you live and give you an over the Internet live audio feed physically patched to the audio output of any of my test systems where you can hear the audio intermittently chopping out while we look at live events and live debug data. The way I am testing (which makes all of the dropouts far more obvious and detectable) is by running the audio output from the USB fob to a good set of amplified speakers.. setting TX timeout very high issuing a radio key and listening the the transmitted PL tone as well as a CWID beacon sent every 60 seconds (you get used to it.) The audio dropouts are prevalent as ever on every system I've tested so far which specifically includes: * Pentium3 450Mhz all Intel chipset. * Pentium3 600Mhz Intel chipset * AMD Duron 1.1Ghz all in oue mother board system VIA chipset. * AMD Athlon64 system NVidia motehrbaord (NForce3) with AGP Nvidia video card. * Intel Core2 Quad 6700 Nvidia SLI750i motherboard with Nvidia PCI/e video card * Intel i5 (2.66Ghz) Asus P7P55D Motherboard (Intel P55 Express chipset) woth PCI/e video card. * AMD Turion64 Laptop (2.2Ghz CPU) also tried turning off speedstep locking CPU at full speed. * HP Laptop with Intel P4 3.2Ghz (Single core) CPU Intel chipset. * Virtual Machine on AMD Turion Laptop: has same audio dropouts + it's own new audio pops due to virtual machine/usb share (this is expected) I've noticed the frequency of the dropouts on all systems to be about the same.. but the 'sound' of the droputs changes with CPU speed... on the very slow systems you can actually hear the 'putter putter putter' sound they make.. On very fast systems you hear a quick 'zipping sound'. This occurs seeming randomly but on average 3-5 times in any 3 minute span of time.. Especially around the beginning and end of the CWID but not always there.. At this point I'm speculating (but I'm not an expert or software/driver guy) that the routine handling sending data to the USB fob is being inappropriately interrupted by something else (or everything else) when it should not be.. In my experience this routine should have some type of exclusive (or nearly exclusive) use of the CPU/bus while the data is being sent (timer interrupt routine I am guessing) to the USB device. :-) Thanks! The JMTek, LLC. fob uses a SSS1623 IC. Not the CM108 that it claims. A schematic is available at http://www.power-on.com.tw/PRODUCT/USB-AUDIO/SSS1623%20product%20spec%20Ver% 201.02.pdf I changed the define statement in chan_usbradio.c to match the JMTek chip and I get a blinking light and I can pass tone using the radio tune txvoice command. However, this does not address the COR and PTT requirement. The SSS1623 chip does have GPIO control pins but on the fob I have they do not appear to be brought out to the board. If you have a fob with a discrete chip on it you may be able to get to these pins. But it may also require a new device type be added to chan_usbradio.c and usbradio.conf. Does anyone know a reliable source for the CM108 fobs? When I connect to a Echolink station from my All Star node, say the Echo Reflector, I seem to get a loop. I don't key my repeater, and It will keep going back and forth and the telemetry CT is a single boop, like it is from the link, not a beep boop like from my repeater. So I connected my All Star node to my windows laptop running Echolink as a single user, and whenever my node is receiving a signal from an echolink station, after the station is done "transmitting" my node will return with a transmitting signal with no audio. Anyone else have this? Thanks, Monty KE7JVX -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
