Message-ID: Hi all, Just wondering if anyone else is having this issue or may have some idea what's going on? Running the latest SVN build of the app_rpt and the asterisk 1.4.23- pre from the SVN repository, with chan_echolink and chan_irlp. Everything seems to work OK for the most part; occasionally get random DTMF tones thrown out over the transmitter from Echolink, but not as much as in earlier incarnations. Audio levels also seem consistent across the board. The one issue I seem to be having, though, is that connecting and disconnecting from Echolink nodes seems to take a really, really long time, sometimes well over a minute. During this time, no audio is repeated, and the transmitter stays keyed. I couldn't say whether DTMF decoding still occurs and is tied up in a queue somewhere, but I don't think so. Also, possibly related: I was connected to another Allstar node on Saturday. This node was connected to a bunch of Echolink nodes through rptdir, and I was connected to one Echolink node using chan_echolink. At some point several times, the Echolink node I was connected to would drop. When it dropped, I had the same issues as above: it took an age to actually drop, and during this period, no audio was transmitted. This would happen when someone was talking from the ASterisk link; I'd hear the linked station, then the transmitter would drop all audio (dead carrier), until I got an indication that my Echolink station had dropped. If I'm at a console, doing a reload wakes the system up, but doesn't necessarily prevent the disconnect (or continue the connection if connecting to Echolink). This behavior only appears to be present with Echolink. IRLP and Asterisk connections seem to have no trouble at all. Anyone else, or anyone have an idea what's happening here? Have you tried looking at the Asterisk console for clues as to why your connect times are so long? You might see error or retry information which could help you determine where the problems are. I had to boot ubuntu from cd-rom to mkfs the CF because although fsck was present, mkfs was not available on the CF image I downloaded. There's a dtmf function cop,12 (and an lnkdis control state) that apparently disables user linking functions. Now I've never used those before, so I'm not sure if it disables all linking (incoming and outgoing) or just disables the local outgoing link commands. I'm sure the devs could shed a little more light on that subject, but hey, why not give it a shot? Another real quick and easy way would be to comment out the entire [radio] section in /etc/asterisk/iax.conf. This would literally make asterisk stop listening for incoming connections. You could make a quick little shell script that renames files to switch between two iax.conf files, your original one and one with that section commented out, and even run it on an automatic schedule if you wanted. In other words, what do you do to get the audio files to play? I'm wondering if the connect message is the real culprit here. LNKDIS only disables the linking functions it does not prevent incoming connections from being accepted. Currently, the best way to do this is to edit extensions.conf and comment our Rpt application like this: [radio-secure] ;exten = 2010,1,rpt,2010 It seems strange to me that the audio file is being killed off and I'd like to try out how you are playing files here to understand the mechanism. I record the files the night before and save them to the node as an .au file, then just use a root cron to call a bash script which contains the following: /usr/sbin/asterisk -rx "rpt fun 2250 *6" ; disconnect all connections sleep 6 /usr/sbin/asterisk -rx "rpt fun 2250 *947" ; reset the link activity timer flag sleep 3 /usr/sbin/asterisk -rx "rpt playback 2250 gb2rs" ; plays the file There is an almost identical script for the ARNewsline which plays out in the evening. If there is an incoming connection during the playback, Alisson announces the incoming connection, and thats the end of the playback. I think that you could be right about the connect message causing the problem. Perhaps I should be playing the files a different way which would alleviate the problem? It would be nice though, to be able to script in something to prevent incoming connections during this time. I'm not sure how to script something that would comment out the line in extensions.conf - I'll have to look into how to do that but it certainly looks like that will achieve whats needed. Thanks everyone for the help so far. What I'm trying to do is a variation on the method described by Steve earlier to inhibit incoming calls. What I intend to to is this: When the user keys a specific DTMF code, have a script run which renames IRLP.conf as somethingelse.conf ad then restart asterisk, so effectively disabling IRLP part of the node. I will do the same with Echolink but with a different code..... I've tried using the dialplan to call some announcements just to see if it worked - it didnt! Set up an autopatch to access a specific context in extensions.conf using context=yourcontext and farenddisconnect=1 on the function entry in the function stanza. Once your context executes in extensions.conf you can execute programs using Asterisk extension logic. (You'll need to do some reading in the asterisk book or on voip-info.org if you don't know what extension logic is) You can use one or two digit extension numbers within the context in extensions.confto allow several different things to be done in extensions.conf. Function table in rpt.conf: *97,autopatchup,context=mycontext,farenddisconnect=1 Context in extensions.conf: [mycontext] exten => 1,1,Answer exten => 1,n,Wait 1 ... So I added two new COP functions to app_rpt.c to disable incoming connections and enable incoming connections. cop,49 disables Allstar, IRLP and Echolink connections, and cop,50 enables them. If a node is already linked, then the connection will stay up as long as the network path is there, and the calling node does not disconnect. cop,49 prevents new incoming connections from nodes but does not disconnect established connections. To do what you want to do, please consider using extension logic, and switch in filtering statements using the caller ID mechanism when you only want a selected number of nodes to connect. P.S. Just to make sure, those of you that have one can compare the results of "lsusb" to what I got. Bus 004 Device 003: ID 0d8c:000c C-Media Electronics, Inc. Audio Adapter The downside of this fob is that the chip is on the bottom side. So making a connection to pin 13 may be easy, but getting it to a wire bundle on the top side may be hard. If you remove the audio jacks, it does leave 2 small holes from each one in the board (not from a solder point) that you may be able to router a small wire through. They're all small wires anyway right? As for the pin 48, I haven't tested the connections, but since pin 48 is Volume Down, according to the datasheet, and there is a volume down button it should be easy to just solder to the button connection instead of the chip. So basically I think this sound fob would work great for modification as long as you intend on removing at least the mic jack. I personally like leaving the speaker jack just for testing/monitoring. Jeff WQEX694 KB1SPH (Yes, I finally took my ham test and passed on the 5th!) P.S. This is probably a dumb question and the wrong place to ask, but does anybody know if you can connect to IRLP over the internet if you don't have a local repeater that's connected? ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Thursday, June 04, 2009 12:00 PM Subject: App_rpt-users Digest, Vol 4, Issue 4 > Send App_rpt-users mailing list submissions to > app_rpt-users at qrvc.com > > To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit > http://qrvc.com/mailman/listinfo/app_rpt-users > or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to > app_rpt-users-request at qrvc.com > > You can reach the person managing the list at > app_rpt-users-owner at qrvc.com > > When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific > than "Re: Contents of App_rpt-users digest..." > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. I am fairly new to AllStar but I now have got two nodes on the air (2480 & 2481), but not without a lot of help from Jim Dixon and Matt Beasant. Thank you both. I was wondering if I could retrieve the same status information that is posted to the stats.allstarlink.org database for my own use on another web site. I am thinking here of our repeater group page, where it would be useful to have up-to-the-minute node status data. Any suggestions as to how I might achieve this? Also, I see from /var/log/asterisk/messages that useful data is collected concerning EchoLink connections (amongst other stuff). I would like to parse out this information, again for posting on the website, but as I am not too well acquainted with the likes of grep, sed, awk and other tools, I'd be glad of some pointers - even a suggestion for a web-based tutorial on log file mangling would be good. Oh, one last thing. Can you guys advise on what console commands are available for checking Asterisk and app_rpt versions, so I can check where I am up to? Thanks. If you want, you could replace the wget with a bash script, and send the information to two destinations using two different wgets in the script. This "splitter" script is something I'm going to code up soon. We wrote some custom php code to receive the wget request and record the information into a database which is then accessed when you visit stats. allstarlink.org. A lot of static information also comes over the net from the main allstarlink database. This would have to be supplied locally in your case. This code is a hack. It is not able to be released because of the potential support burden it would require from us. Another approach would be to write a CGI to scrape the relevant information from stats.allstarlink.org, and only display your nodes on your club website. A better follow-on approach would be to make all of the data available as a web service from stats.allstarlink.org as an XML request, but that is a whole new project in and of itself. Note: You won't get the fancy graphical node diagram doing this you would have to cobble that together from the selected data you retrieved. Regarding the use of sed, awk and friends on log files, please google for this, there's plenty of information out there. You can send DTMF commands from the Asterisk console using the rpt fun command like this: rpt fun 2480 *82 The above command will read back the app_rpt.c version number over the node's transmitter. I cant see a link to a > CVS tree either > > 73 > > 'CQU > > > Your strategy is not advised. For two reasons. --one-- The latest Digium sources are not compatible with app_rpt and the usb driver, Getting Digium to incorporate our changes to fix this has been next to impossible. Our solution was to use a patched copy of asterisk 1.4.23-pre and build our system off of that. Yes, we have technically forked Asterisk, but we had no choice. --two- Running a radio system and a phone system off of the same box is just asking for trouble. If the radio system goes down, so does your phone system. I learned this one the hard way a few years ago when my system was configured in this manner. I now run two separate servers to avoid getting complaints form family members when my experiments on the radio system go amok. Also, the phone system works much better with DTMF_RELAX configured to be disabled. The sources for the version of Asterisk with all necessary patches and the latest app_rpt.c and usb channel driver are available via SVN from the developers section of my site at http://app-rpt.qrvc.com Steve WA6ZFT -------------- next part -------------- No virus found in this outgoing message. In our experience with Limey Linux (very small footprint) there is still room for a mostly complete distro. On a host, there is plenty of disk space. I realize that these distros are mainly for radio/repeater use, BUT that not all they are used for. I know someone (DMK, the URI dude, actually) that just got a Limey Linux box running as his phone system (I know, I had to get mpg123 compiled for it for his music on hold). I had him noload the app_rpt and chan_usbradio modules, and it really does make a nice small CHEAP phone system. So I think that keeping this stuff as generally useful as possible is the best thing. Message-ID: <20090630195624.GQFT6249.dukecmfep06.coxmail.com@dukecmimpo03.coxmail.com> Over the past yaer or so, Digium has implemented a very rigorous code review/vetting process, which I feel is not worth investing any time in-- because frankly, I have enough problems to go after and resolve, and we refuse to play "patch catchup drudgery" expending valuable time keeping up with the latest Digium versions when the version we are using works fine for radio users. If someone wants to use the latest asterisk version with app_rpt and the usb channel driver, they'll need to do the app_rpt changes themselves, integrate the patches from our version of asterisk, test it, and correct any problems, or pay someone to do it. They are on their own. This is not to say that we might switch to a newer version of Asterisk at some point in the future, but it will only happen when something is needed in the newer version of Asterisk to either fix or improve app_rpt.
