Message-ID: <49FA5B60.1030307@rodgers.sdcoxmail.com> Please take the time to create an reporter account at: http://mantis.qrvc.com and add any issues you have seen with app_rpt/Asterisk. Additionally, We are looking for more information and/or feedback on Bug 0000014: Problem with telemetry being generated (although no PTT) with duplex=0, and none with duplex=0, link2link = 1. If you are the one who reported this bug, please add information on how to duplicate, (if it is duplicatable) as the description is a bit terse. We would like to also know what telemetry is not keying PTT and when it happens. Message-ID: <54AE6EAE9BF84FFDA70E6DE9985018AF@Acer1> I am probably missing something obvious but..... Have outbound audio at the sound fob being used. When in TX mode station at other end receives carrier only. Inbound audio is fine. iaxRpt works. Is there an 'echo' type node which can be used to make adjustments? Any ideas appreciated please. Assuming this is the issue, and it sounds like it is, you'll have to recompile your kernel with the 1 kHz setting. I hate not being able to use mine as it has way more coverage. I am wondering if there is anyway to get the local repeat audio to bypass any processing by asterisk and simply go straight through the fob. I am currently using the COR line to trigger the USB. If not, I am thinking of just taking the COR signal from the rx to pull in a relay that will bridge the rx audio to the tx, and key the tx. I will still leave the COR, rx audio, tx audio, and ptt still wired to the fob so it gets all the signals it needs. set duplex=1 so it app_rpt doesn't repeat, yet still sends the Courtesy tone. That should bypass the fob for local audio, yet still allow it to send ID's, link audio, telemetry...etc What do you guys think? Anyone try anything close to this? Or did you just use a simple hardware controller w/ an IRLP/echolink port? In case anyone else has this problem you need to recompile your linux kernel with the option of having the timer freq set at 1 kHz, which is what zaptel needs and is expecting. Some distros come set at 1 kHz default (centos), but others (ie debian and gentoo) come with a different default setting. To change this, when you're recompiling, in the make menuconfig utility look under processor type and features and change timer frequency to 1000. So far the audio seems to be fairly stable so far. A couple of things observed. 1) I can't seem to connect to IRLP reflector 9453. I get connection fail unless I key up between the IRLP announcement and The Asterisk announcements. If I key up then I get a successful connection. Now the weird part, I can connect to IRLP 9454 and 9452 with out having to key up. It only seems to be 9453 that I have this trouble. I have tried this on node 2182 as well with the same symptom. I am told that when IRLP connects to a reflector that a key pulse is supposed to be sent on one of the 1542X ports and it seems that it does not get sent or it takes too long to do it unless I key it manually with my radio. I don't seem to be having the same problem on other IRLP reflectors. 2) I can connect to EXP reflector 0040 ok but I am having trouble on EXP 0016. Now EXP node 0016 is set up to feed Newsline. What seems to be happening is the 0016 node wants to connect using ADPCM full duplex, my node doesn't like it so it picks GSM as fallback codec but most of the time I just get "GSM data Error messages on the screen. I did see that Steve has a newer versions of App_Rpt_C and ChanIRLP. But I thought that this might be some good feed back. Dont know why its trying to do GSM as My normal IRLP node connects with ADPCM full duplex. Do I not have something set right here? I checked the IAX.conf files to make sure that ulaw, G726aa12 and GSM are enabled. Jon. Jim Duuuude wrote: > I have attempted to duplicate both of your reports. It's unlikely that it could have broken the normal IRLP connectivity. Suggestions: Try to "light-switch" the problem by repeatedly loading versions 0.25 and 0.26 repeatedly to ensure it follows version 0.26. 2. If if always fails in version 0.26, issue "rpt debug level 5" from the Asterisk CLI and then please post the output from the Asterisk CLI, after a connect attempt. The foreign link stuff needs to be documented by Jim Dixon, as I don't have a complete picture in my mind of how it all works. I'll ask him to pull down the latest svn of usbradio/rpt.conf, and add the documentation into it. It seems either we don't know the "secret handshake" to properly say "bye" to a reflector, or it is SOP for the reflector to continue sending stuff after a disconnect. We're not quite sure why refectors do this. It's irritating because, of the way the IRLP scripts are coded this can cause false disconnects if someone disconnects from a reflector, and then rapidly connects to something else. Thought that was the case based on some vague memories ;-) Installed chan_irlp 0.27 a little while ago. So far, appears to be working well. I'll try playing with some of the other new features on app_rpt 0.181 maybe this evening or shortly there after. Just as a point of reference, running LL 1.0.6 on the d201gly2 platform. Have not deployed any of the $99 ebay specials yet. Hope to try messing with the Sheeva plug in the near future, too. -- This message was NOT sent by an iPhone or Blackberry Randy Hammock KC6HUR http://kc6hur.net/~rhammock/ http://irlp.kc6hur.net/ If there are no horses in heaven, then when I die, I want to go where they went. I also made the assumption that if a 1 KHZ tone set to 3 KHz of deviation was correct for a 5KHz system then 1.5KHz would be correct for my 2.5KHz system. So I set rxvoice to 1.5KHz and rxtone to .6KHz then with txtone set to 0, I set txvoice to 1.5KHz and txtone to .6KHz. However when this was complete I had low audio through the repeater and only 1.85KHz of dev out. So I went back with the service monitor in duplex mode and adjusted the txvoice up until I got my 2.5KHZ out and the repeater sounds very good as a standalone. I have 2 questions and a comment, first, what are the correct numbers for setting up a 2.5KHz system using the URI's? and why? Second, What would the best way to add a 5KHz node and keep the levels even across the system? Comment: We recorded some voice announcements for repeater ID through our Asterisk phone system at work to produce the wav files and the audio is really great, as a matter of fact I'm very impressed with this whole app_rpt deal !!! If you don't mind collecting some data, I'd like you to try the following with 2 nodes: 1. Configure and adjust a node with a 5KHz radio connected using the standard procedure. Don't worry about txtone and set it to 0 before adjusting txvoice. 2. Configure and adjust a node with a 2.5 KHz radio using your procedure of setting 1.5KHz for rxvoice, and txvoice. Don't worry about txtone and set it to 0 before adjusting txvoice. 3. Using your service monitor in duplex mode on the 5 KHz radio, see if you get 3.0KHz dev. on the TX while driving the RX with 3.0KHz of dev. on the input. Note the value. 4. Using your service monitor in duplex mode on the 2.5 KHz radio, see if you get 1.5KHz dev. on the TX while driving the RX with 1.5KHz of dev. on the input. Note the value. 5. Link the two nodes (using the adpcm or ulaw codec only, and not GSM!!), and check the audio transfer ratio between the two systems using a 1KHz tone at 1.5KHz dev. on the 2.5 KHz radio and a 1KHz tone at 3.0KHz dev. on the 5KHz radio (RX to 5KHz tx and 5KHZ rx to 2.5KHz tx). Steve, Jim, IRLP is pretty crude about how it does the disconnect from reflectors. It merely kills the ispeaker and imike processes so that there is no longer anything to receive/send packets from/to the reflector. I guess something eventually times out. This is the only thing it can do since there is no TCP command channel between nodes and reflectors. Normal node to node connections disconnect by sending a "disconnect" command across the TCP command channel (fifosend). Not sure what can be done fix this. Since reflectors are receive from one, send to many type systems. They literally use firewall rules to control which node is the talker and blocks the rest from coming in. As there is no TCP channel and the UDP port is blocked if someone else is sending, there is no way to a disconnect message in otherwise. -- This message was NOT sent by an iPhone or Blackberry Randy Hammock KC6HUR http://kc6hur.net/~rhammock/ http://irlp.kc6hur.net/ If there are no horses in heaven, then when I die, I want to go where they went. Here's the scenario: In my rpt.conf I have a function: 94 = cop, something or other All is fine until I try and add a command 941 to do something else. The new code wont work and app_rpt seems to ignore the extra digit on the end and just activates the function that is associated with the code 94. I'm not sure if this is really a bug or not but it certainly had me teased for a good few hours recently when I was adding some new functions to my node. I was expecting code 941 to work but it just wasnt - I was testing a new feature which had been added and I wasnt sure if I had busted the feature or something else had gone wrong! I changed the code to 95 and all worked as expected! Just something to be aware of really I guess unless its an easy fix for the app? Once a match is found, its over! The function decoder will match on the shortest DTMF command first. All digits which follow will be directed to the "method" for further decoding until the method thinks it has enough digits to do something useful. The function method is the numerical value for the class of functions (e.g. COP) as documented in app_rpt.c This is how the autopatch, and internet linking commands work with variable length node numbers and phone numbers. (And it is the only way something with a variable number of digits can work). To use the function decoder effectively: 1. Make sure your most used functions are short digit sequences, and your least used functions are long digit sequences. 2. Make sure your function table does not have any short DTMF functions overriding longer DTMF functions. We'll look in to it. I think you might have just uncovered a weakness in app_rpt. with statpost. It should not be spawning any more than one process at a time. If there is a process running, it should just toss out the statpost update and wait for a specific amount of time for it to finish, if it never finishes, it should be killed and a new wget process started. Would you be kind enough to log the issue in Mantis, and paste in the ps -ax output and suggested fix above? Other nodes dont seem to do this. Is there a setting that governs this? and how does one set it to not time out if I want to monitor a remote node from the cli? ClientAliveInterval x ClientAliveCountMax y where x and y are your variables - timeout interval is governed by x seconds * y You will need to restart sshd - be careful, since you don't want to lock yourself out! service sshd restart TTYL! We need to set his node for a max deviation of 2.5kHz. I wonder if you were able to finalize the calibration levels for rxvoice and txvoice? Looking forward to hearing from you. Cheers, Ramesh. HOWEVER, I was not able to finish a node to node comparison through the network and I still want to do this. We ended up spending a lot of time chasing the noted dsp squelch problem. We mixed wide and narrow receivers and transmitters through the same URI for testing. Starting with a 2.5 Tx and a narrow Rx we put in 1.5 and got out 1.4 and with a wide Rx we put in 3.0 and got out 1.4. Next we used a 5.0 wide TX and with a narrow Rx, we put in 1.5 and got out 2.9 and with a wide Rx we put in 3.0 and got out 2.9. I know, it's clear as mud. I will set up 2 complete repeaters in the rack at home and link them for the final test. For reference these are Motorola Nucleus paging transmitters with Maxtrac receivers (both wide and narrow band) in the 900 band. www.ham-radio.com/kd6wly Mark KD6WLY -----Original Message----- From: Ramesh Dhami (VA3UV) [mailto:Ramesh at va3uv.com] Sent: Friday, May 29, 2009 7:17 AM To: Mark Hergesheimer Cc: app_rpt-users at qrvc.com Subject: Re: [App_rpt-users] Deviation settings for narrow band Mark Hergesheimer wrote: > Steve, > > With the testing I did last weekend my guess is that the target for the > 2.5KHz node is going to be somewhere between 2.0 and 2.5 KHz > I'd be very happy to do some testing but it may have to wait untill the > weekend. > I'll post the results here. I have modified a number of StarTech USB fobs (CM108 based), I have found that when the fobs have been modified, when you plug the fob into the PC (which is previously on), the PC seems to 'see' the fob as a stuck keyboard - I hear a cyclical beep from the PC speaker and some ascii characters on the screen [26] if I remember correctly. I tried this on 2 different PC's - an IBM 8172 and a DELL Precision Workstation. I powered down the IBM and re-booted it from cold with the fob attached - it seemed to power up fine and before long the LED on the new fob was flashing away - seems to be fine. On the DELL, same thing when the machine was already on. I shut the machine down, inserted the fob and restarted - no luck there, the machine continued to detect a stuck keyboard printing the ascii 26 across the screen... I couldn't even login since the ascii char's kept on printing across the screen. Back to the IBM - I connected my repeater to the fob and I have PTT out, audio out, when I issue a DTMF command, the DTMF char's print on the CLI, so obviously I have audio in and the fob senses a valid COS signal - all suggesting that the mod is OK. As I mentioned earlier, I have seen this a number of times with the StarTech fobs - just wondering if anyone else has seen this and whether there is an easy solution to this (sure would be nice to have the fobs inter-changeable between machines). Cheers, Ramesh. Knowing how hard it is to come by the CM108- based sound dongles, thought some might be interested. Anyone used this particular one or bought from these guys? http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.21812 $6.99 gets you one, slightly less for more.
