I am looking for some basic getting started information that I have been unable to find from casually searching the web and websites that I know of. I'd really like to get started with app_rpt and a usb dongle (of which I have a box full with the proper cmedia chip. I am an asterisk/Linux/kernel veteran and am very comfortable configuring and building these types of systems. The specific getting started questions that I have but have been unable to find in any FAQ or FAQ lookalike are: 1. What are the app_rpt specific dependencies? a. does it need zaptel/dahdi/libpri? and which ones? b. does it work in asteirsk 1.6 latest stable? c. does it work directly to the usb dongle or does the usb dongle need some sort of driver of it's own.. be it oss/alsa or the like? 2. I am trying to build asterisk 1.6.1 using make menuconfig and under apps --> app_rpt I only get [XXX] it's unavailable and I can't build for it. apparently I'm missing some dependency but have no clue which as there seems to be no documented dependency list I could find.. Asterisk builds and works jut fine without app_rpt. I'd also like to register for an ID number on the allstar network.. We don't support asterisk 1.6.x yet. In fact, we've had to fork asterisk 1.4 and oust our own sources because our changes have been next to impossible to get into the asterisk main development source tree. This may change in the future, but its hard to say when. Our svn server access is documented on our website at http://app-rpt.qrvc.com. The USB fob requires zaptel ztdummy, libpri, and uses chan_usbradio.c/xpmr as its driver. It also requires the alsa library with alsa oss compatiblity add-on, and support in the kernel. I would suggest you download and use our sources as we have made some mods to the asterisk core. My suggestion would be to download ACID from dl.allstarlink.org and get that running, then take a look at that as a model to get your custom-built system going. Excellent this is what I needed to know and was having some difficulty finding. I had no clue and I don't think it's spelled out anywhere that this stuff is not working or supported by anyone on 1.6.x yet.. or maybe I'm confused.. Far as I can tell not only is it not supported by this group on 1.6 but it also does not work there.. from what I could see first hand. Fair enough 'ol 1.4 it is for now then (the system that I know well anyway).. This project *was* going to be my first venture into 1.6 territory but not now then. Also I will as you suggest start out with ACID and use that as a start/reference point to go on and make some custom builds to follow. Bummer to hear that about getting your updates back into the main.. I've heard it's been really 'strange' over there lately.. And I'm not really up on all the changes other than what I've heard on the surface. Heck even the free music on hold 'went South' so to speak. Statpost is for status updates only. IP addresses are updated with register statements in iax.conf. Please take a look at the the register statement(s) in iax.conf. There should be one register statement for each active node on the box. Message-ID: <293e8fff0910190124n277b39d4l6e6a31a6440b7160@mail.gmail.com> Hi all, We recently built a new allstar asterisk repeater using a svn development build from a few weeks ago. ( I did have a small prob with the build but that was easy to fix by altering a makefile, I can elaborate if required) It works fine as a repeater with the DMK fob but when we call an allstar node it fails. However, when we call a echolink server it works fine. We parsed our older xipar config files to build the new configs for the svn build, I guess we may have missed something for the iax to work? It also seems to register ok on the allstar stats site... Any suggestions? When we put our older allstar repeater back in place it works fine on allstar so it can't be a network or firewall issue... They are only part of the install process. astupd.sh is the script you want to run, but if your system(s) are not ACID version 0.9 then you'll have to re-install from scratch. The script will refuse to do an update if the versions don't match. The helper scripts are located in: /usr/local/sbin and that should be part of the path. If it still segfaults after installing ACID 0.9, then you might want to compare configs against working and non-working nodes to see what usbradio setting(s) is causing the problem. Message-ID: <4ADF5E46.2010505@michiganbroadband.com> Hello.. I'm looking for a little feedback on those who have experienced and used the USB sound device and realtime CPU requirements for the DSP routines.. Reading the documentation suggests that I MUST use at least a 1.3Ghz CPU for usb_chan applications. The dilemma I have is that I have a beautiful rackmount AMD Duron 1.1Ghz CPU server sitting right here that would be awesome for the application if it will keep up. It's going to be a very light use system (testing only) and single user at a time type scenario.. not multiple connections or linking to other repeaters etc. This will not be the production multiuser system. * I will be using non compressed codecs (G.711/WAV/PCM) wherever possible for voice quality Internet bandwidth is not a concern on this system. Do you think I'm still going to run into a CPU bottleneck with a 1.1Ghz CPU for this use? (I know just try it out and see... and I'm going to) haha. What part of the code eats the most CPU? I ahve a lot of experience using Asterisk 2.4 on older P2/400Mhz class systems and I have had a lot of surprising performance out of them in terms of multiple users compressed codecs (GSM/G729) trascoding meetme conferences and IAX trunks all going on at the same time without issues and seeing relatively low CPU usage considering all the activity and bridging transcoding goign on. I must admit I've never used asterisks built in inband DTMF detection because I've never been able to get it to work reliably even on a lighning fast 3.5Ghz Xeon. Might just be that I've not taken the time to work with it because RFC2833 works flawlessly for VOIP. (getting a little side tracked there sorry). There's no way for app_rpt.c to do change CTCSS tones dynamically because XPMR/chan_usbradio.c does not support this yet. There is an open Mantis feature request to add this ability to chan_usbradio/XPMR, but this work will have to be done by Jim, WB6NIL, and Steve Henke W9SH as I am not cognizant of the internal workings of this code. > 2). Message-ID: Please note, Dave Cameron VE7LTD is preparing to purge the IRLP node PGP key list of nodes that have not recently reported to the IRLP IP server. He is making an adjustment to his procedure to see which node are also reporting to the status servers. To make sure your irlp_chan node remains on the PGP key list first you must become the user: repeater. Then run the following command: rm -f $LOCAL/last_ip_address Then you should run: $SCRIPTS/ipupdate Under normal IRLP operation a file update downloads a "temporary" version of ipupdate which has the previous command to delete the $LOCAL/last_ip_address file which will force the ipupdate script to contact the IRLP IP server. You can check if your node is on the HAS NOT REPORTED LIST by going to the following URL: http://server2.irlp.net/hosts/noupdate_list If your node is on the list, then above procedure should get you off the list. -- Randy Hammock KC6HUR http://kc6hur.net IRLP 4494 / ALLSTAR 2035 http://irlp.kc6hur.net From jrorke at cogeco.ca Tue Oct 27 02:27:20 2009 From: jrorke at cogeco.ca (RED BUTTON MOBILE) Date: Mon, 26 Oct 2009 21:27:20 -0500 Subject: [App_rpt-users] IRlp not connecting after upgrade Message-ID: <4AE65A88.1080106@cogeco.ca> Hi all I recently did a fresh reload using latest Acid and rebuilt my node 2249. If your node number has a green background, it means that the register statement in iax.conf is registering properly with register.allstarlink.org, and that you can most likely connect to other nodes and accept connections from other nodes without a problem. If it is a grey background it means you are not registering, and you should resolve it by putting the something like this in your iax.conf file: register=Anode:password at register.allstarlink.org where: node is your assigned Allstar link node number. password is your assigned Allstar Link access password. For example, node 1234 which has a password of 12345678 would put the following line in [general] section /etc/asterisk/iax.conf: [general] . . . register=A1234:12345678 at register.allstarlink.org. Note: You will need to issue an iax2 reload command from the Asterisk Command line, or restart Asterisk after you save iax.conf. Please note that registering is a very different mechanism than posting status using the statpost in rpt.conf. Registering is what enables your node to connect to other nodes, and enables your node to validate an incoming connection. If you are set up for a static IP (very early Allstarlink users only), then you should start registering anyway as we want to get everybody to be using registration. If you have a static IP registration on allstarlink.org, once you start registering, please let either Jim or I know so that we can convert your node to the register method. Set the app_rpt box up so that the default IAX2 port is something other then 4569, like 4568, for example. This needs to be done in the iax.conf (bindport) and static references to the nodes in rpt.conf (ipaddr:4568). And, of course, forward the public address 4568 to the NAT address for the app_rpt machine. If there is a problem with the router deciminiating this port info when registering, let us know, and we can override the port number for you. Use port 4569 for the phone box as normal. I have two Asterisk boxes, both sitting behind a single NAT'ed public IP address. I have IAX2 traffic from Allstar pointing to the app_rpt box, and SIP traffic pointing to the other box which is acting as my home phone system. I keep both systems separate for various reasons, so running this all on one installation was not an option, hence the two separate boxes :) I want to take advantage of the IAX2 protocol for the box running my home phone system outside of my LAN, but the problem is as I only have a single IP address UDP port 4569 is already pointing to the app_rpt box. I have been shifting a few ideas around in my head, none of which I think will be easy to implement, or even guaranteed to work with my desired results. It's entirely possible that I may be trying to re-invent the wheel, but as I know there is much talent on this list concerning Asterisk maybe someone already has a solution for this :D Please reply to me off-list if you can/are willing to offer me some help or maybe even a clue ;) 73 and tnx Stephen K1LNX -- ********************************** Stephen Brown - ARS K1LNX Johnson City, TN EM86 http://www.k1lnx.net google voice: 423-665-9367 ********************************** -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... It was a firewall issue. I am using Untangle Firewall /Router and it utilizes a VM for the firewall subsystem which allows for 2 filtering options. One is a complete bypass at the network interface level ( this is what is working now and a true port forward) the other is a rule set through the Firewall with Iptables and a gui to configure it. I was not able to get the firewall ruleset working so the bypass method works.. The bypass makes it faster but the audits in the GUI never see it if it is not a ruleset. Hopefully this may help others if it comes up :-) I may work on the ruleset as I would love to control and monitor bandwidth and such which the gui does... in the long run I would prefer it.. but were up!!!!!!
