In addition, I myself, have seen cases where the RSSI and squelch values seemed just really silly high for some reason. I believe I have found the culprit and have fixed it. It turns out that the hardware gain of the USB sound chip was different depending on whether it just had a 'tune rxnoise' or if it was set up from the config file. It turns out that because of a rounding error, it would often set its value 1 too low (compared with what the 'tune rxnoise' calculated it should have been). Believe me, when you only get a range of 1 to 16, 1 too low makes a big difference (about 1.5 db)!! This has now been fixed in the new version of chan_usbradio that will appear on the SVN this afternoon after about 3:30 PM PDT. Also, because of changes made in the squelch processing a few months ago (hysteresis was added), the squelch turn-off point is at least 60 'RSSI units' (whatever they are) higher then the signal level. Its probably a good idea to set the rxsquelch level to 80-100 higher then the level with no signal. This should both fix and explain a lot of strange things going on. I dont think this deals with some of the weirdness with 12.5 kHz receivers, but it might at least help in this area. The big problem is synchronization of the multiple incoming signals (time-wise). The system needs to be able to select between signals dynamically in the middle of a transmission (the whole purpose of voting), and just a little more then tough when doing it on the internet with VARIOUS causes for timing inconsistencies. Its an extremely complicated mess, and would most likely involve a super-accurate timebase, such as a GPS receiver or something. Frankly, this serious and complicated of an implementation is well beyond the scope of reasonable expectations for an Amateur Radio project (or at least not without a DARN good reason). If youve got some DARN good reason(s) Ill be happy to listen to them. Tomorrow, I'll be demonstrating an application that I've been working on that allows you to search through and display Allstar node logs. The application allows you to select date ranges and filter the logs using built-in criteria such as >From (or To) Echolink, From (or To) Allstar, From (or To) IRLP, Node startups, DTMF entry, etc. Additionally, you can create your own search filters. You can then click/drag-select ranges of the resulting formatted/displayed log entries which then generates a playlist. Click "Play", and the application plays out the associated .WAV files. Press the "Sync" button and the app will SCP any new files in Archivedir not previously "synced". I can provide binaries for the application for Windows, Linux, and (if someone really wants it and I can round up a test machine) Mac. I have a little more work to do on improvements to the log filtering mechanism, more testing to do on the Linux implementation, and potential changes/enhancements that come out of suggestions from those who see the demo in Las Vegas. Of course, there are many ways to skin this cat..Python scripts, Perl..various Web cgi's but if you're interested, I'll update the list when I'm ready to do a "beta" distribution. Of course, it'll be free for anyone who wants it..just my little way to contribute the the awesome work done by Steve, Jim, and others over the years. 73's, Keith KF7DRV Allstar: 2541 On 4/9/10, Bob Brown - W?NQX wrote: > i just use the SSH Port 222 that we ssh in on for win scp it gives you > the option > > > -- > Thanks in Advance > > Bob Brown, W?NQX > > Kansas City Metro Area > > http://sm0kenet.net > > http://byrg.net > > http://kcdstar.byrg.net > > Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? > > > > > On Fri, Apr 9, 2010 at 12:58, James Nessen wrote: >> SSH?(SCP)?is your one and only friend. >> Jim, K6JWN >> On Fri, Apr 9, 2010 at 10:33 AM, Doug Bade wrote: >>> >>> I use WinSCP from my Windows laptop after I enter through a VPN to the >>> site? For example, I have a node (simplex) in my van and it has a GPS receiver that uses app_gps to report its whereabouts through APRS (using APRS-IS), and in addition makes the location (including elevation) available so that other parts of the system can have access to the information, if desired. Currently, the only thing that takes advantage of that is a status function (4, i believe) that speaks the lat, long and elevation on the air when queried. In the future, my intention was to maybe include this data in the node status reporting, so that when you get list of systems it will show its exact location, and maybe also tie it in with the status information passed along with things like the Echolink connection, etc. Im sure that other people will think of way more creative things to do with it. I have installed ACID and put my old registration data into the setup script. The system is showing as registered on the allstar.org status page, so it looks like that phase has worked. Now, the next (and more difficult phase) comes. For a variety of technical and cosmetic reasons, I would like to interface the AllStar system to a highly modified EchoIRLP node (it runs thelinkbox in a unique configuration), and have the EchoIRLP node and the AllStar node share status information, so I can implement interlocks (i.e. when IRLP or Echolink is busy, lock out AllStar, and vice-versa). While I can hack this on thelinkbox side, by de-linking the AllStar port (in tlb) when there's other traffic, this is an ugly hack that puts AllStar at a major disadvantage. What I need to know are: 1. Is there any event that is generated when an AllStar node connects or disconnects, that can be used to call an external shell script? 2. Is it possible to set an AllStar node as "busy" on the fly? 3. Can chan_irlp or chan_echolink be used to make outbound connections without being a part of the IRLP or Echolink networks respectively? I'd need to use one of these methods to make the audio link across the LAN. The old chan_rtpdir was quite good for this style of operation, though it was GSM only. Running app_rpt on the same machine is not feasible at this time. It has been tried in the past and caused major grief - need some serious hardware upgrades, but that in turn needs some planning. Also, if I can resolve (1) and (2), this would go a _long_ way to making app_rpt/AllStar more acceptable to the IRLP community, by bringing it into line with IRLP policies. I feel this would in turn be a good thing for app_rpt and AllStar overall. 73 de VK3JED / VK3IRL http://vkradio.com From vk3jed at vkradio.com Sun Apr 11 22:50:13 2010 From: vk3jed at vkradio.com (Tony Langdon, VK3JED) Date: Mon, 12 Apr 2010 08:50:13 +1000 Subject: [App_rpt-users] Asterisk conference on 64 bit CentOS? Message-ID: <4bc25232.e302be0a.3c41.39e6@mx.google.com> Is anyone running Asterisk/app_rpt on a 64 bit platform? Can this be done with good results? There were a number of warning messages for compiling app_rpt.c - but apparently nothing fatal. Asterisk itself compiled fine. I would point out that my machine has 4G of memory (I am considering reducing it to 2G, which is way more than enough). If there were some problem about pointer type/sizes it might help if all the memory was in the lower address range... I also compiled the add-on package to get format_mp3.c - it had a few error messages too, but plays my National Weather Service MP3's just fine. The hardware is a Dell 2850 PowerEdge server with dual 64-bit Xeon CPU's. Well, thelinkbox still supports chan_rtpdir (v 0.5, I think), so hopefully Jim will consider working with Skip on updating chan_rtpdir support to the new "chan_tlb". Needless to say, I'm putting my hand up to beta test it! :) You've confirmed my suspicion that full protocol support is required for the IRLP and Echolink channel drivers to work, and that resurrecting chan_rtpdir is the way to go for point to point links between thelinkbox and app_rpt. The rest is just hacking with the pieces provided, which I'm no stranger to. :) Anyway, thanks for your help Steve, you've given me a lot to work with. I do have another project on the back-burner... my own repeater site where nodes 2182 and 2424 are running. Node 2182 is running half duplex into an RC-210 repeater controller, which seems to be very volatile! The controller arbitrarily locks up, unlinks ports, resets the clock, and so on! The two things that I really like about the controller are: 1. The ability to send out the ident without enabling the PL, so folks with a ctcss enabled receiver don't hear it! 2. The ability to turn off the PL before the carrier drops, again, folks with a ctcss enabled receiver do not hear a squelch crash - it's a seamless transition. I believe the feature described in #1 has been added a little while ago. I am not sure about #2 - can the timing between the PL drop and carrier drop be varied to ensure that there is a nice seamless transition? - I recall trying this out some time ago but, as I recall, the timing could not be changed and we still heard a squelch crash. Thanks, Ramesh. We decided to publish our lecture notes in PDF-format here: http://db0fhn.efi.fh-nuernberg.de -> projects -> Asterisk/app_rpt. Unfortunately it is germany language only and we did not include too many pictures :/ I have no idea whether translation tools can produce useful output or not... :) 73, Jann -- Jann Traschewski, Drosselstr.1, D-90513 Zirndorf, Germany Tel.: +49-911-696971, Mobile: +49-170-1045937, E-Mail: jann at gmx.de Ham: DG8NGN / DB0VOX, http://www.qsl.net/dg8ngn, ICQ UIN: 4130182 From ckraly at gmail.com Tue Apr 27 12:57:55 2010 From: ckraly at gmail.com (Chuck Kraly) Date: Tue, 27 Apr 2010 07:57:55 -0500 Subject: [App_rpt-users] Disconnect problems Message-ID: We are running the latest build and having problems. There would be others reporting this if it were the case. That "prodding ... zap ... failed" error message normal. Turn on verbosity and debugging from the Asterisk CLI and see what gets printed using the following: core set verbose 7 rpt debug level 6 Or use tcpdump or wireshark to look at what is being sent on eth0 during a disconnect. I had this happen in the past after an upgrade where it would periodically segfault every 10 minutes or so. If you can check the console, there were messages shown in my case. I ended up reinstalling ACID which fixed the problem. SP On 4/27/2010 5:57, Chuck Kraly wrote: > We are running the latest build and having problems.
