The '510s are in Morex 5677 boxes with SSD's and power supplies from 12 VDC. I noticed two things: It seems like the fans want to run at the boot-up speed (default=50%). With the BIOS at the default value, the box gets warm to the touch. If you go into the BIOS and select 100% speed for the fans, the box runs nice and cool. I do not know if the fan would speed up eventually when things get hot - but why wait for that? These are very quiet fans even at full speed. The P/S In the Morex box is arranged so that the big 20-pin plug largely obstructs one of the fans. Since it is an exhaust fan, maybe this does not matter much. But it is really easy to rotate the P/S board 180 degrees and this seems to result in less obstruction of the fans. Final touch is to put some black tape on the vent holes next to the fans so that most of the air has to come from the other side of the box, rather than taking a short cut. I did some measurements last night. With the two little fans running in the Morex 5677, the hottest hot spot in the air discharge is 18 degrees warmer than the room air (72 F in and 85-90 F out). This is with the D510mo running ACID and two fobs in operation. Total power into the box measures 19.5 watts including power supply losses. So - the heat sink is being exposed to air that averages about 9 degrees warmer than room temperature, at the nominal operating conditions. Except for the output grill, the box feels cool to the touch. I think this should be quite a happy arrangement. I will try to install lm-sensor / coretemp, or whatever, and see what the CPU reports as its internal operating temperature ... Ken PS - Stopping Asterisk reduces power consumption by 0.65 watts. -----Original Message----- From: Jim Duuuude To: ke2n at cs.com; app_rpt mailing list Sent: Mon, Aug 2, 2010 11:15 am Subject: RE: [App_rpt-users] Atom I seriously doubt that a Morex 5677 (which is a NICE case for a normal, reasonable motherboard) would EVER even come CLOSE to the thermal requirements necessary for long-term reliable service from a D410/D510 board. In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: I have two Allstar nodes running (each on separate boxes) at a remote site with internet connectivity. All was working great then a storm passed and the little linksys switch hung in a wierd state. No traffic in/out to the internet however the two pc's were still talking and linked. The repeaters were still functioning, but obviously no linking to the outside world. Then about two weeks later, both pc's quit repeating and had no response to any dtmf commands. I figured I lost the UPS (only common item other than the switch). Finally made a trip to the site and found the UPS was ok as were both pc's. The URI's were NOT flashing, indicating asterisk had crashed. I didn't take a monitor with me, only a laptop so I didn't see what was on the screen before I rebooted them. After a reboot (and replacing the fried ethernet switch) everything came back up. So, my question is, would loss of internet for an extended time cause CentOS (or Asterisk) to crash? Were can I probe around in the logs (if any) to try and find out what happened? Thanks in advance.... Our beta testing of the new site is pretty much over, so it should be coming fairly soon. We have to complete the new releases of the distros, change some of the wording on the beta site to be appropriate for the 'real' site, upgrade the server (poor thing, its only a P4 at 2.4 Ghz with 1GB of RAM), and port the data. Your existing installations will work just fine with the new system, with a slight modification to how your system registers (actually its simply a matter of removing the 'A' from in front of the node name in the iax.conf registration line(s), but dont do it until the new system is up). All this info will be readily available from the main page of the new site. Just thought you all would like to know. By default there is a dialing plan in there to dial regular phone numbers through a trunk (yes I edited it and regular numbers work) but I want to be able to dial 1XX numbers (100-199) for local extensions. Everything I have tried does not work. I just keep getting the busy signal for the call not going through. Now I know the trunk works and will accept these calls because the trunk is just my personal pbx running asterisk as well. I have the repeater set up as an extension on the main PBX so that I could pick up a phone and dial the repeater if I wish.....which I haven't exactly figured out yet either. So the two big questions would be: 1.) How do I make it so I can dial 1XX numbers through the already configured trunk? 2.) How can I make the repeater auto accept incoming calls....or maybe with a password? These natively support the new Allstar Link system and archetecture. Therefore, its probably not a good idea to implement these until the new system is up and running (at least Friday 8/13 or soon thereafter, depending upon how many problems we encounter). Remember, if you have at least a fairly recent ACID install CD, it is not necessary to download another one. You can just use the CD you have, since all the files unique to a particular version of the distribution are all downloaded when you do the install. Caveat: We have tested these distros to the best of our ability, but since there are so many things changing (not necessarily directly involving the distros themselves), that we can not guarantee a trouble-free experience with them. We have done everything we can, but since so much is changing it might not be unreasonable to expect some difficulties. If so, we will fix them quickly and efficiently. They are charging me individual shipping and handling for each of the 12. They are asking for over $33 for shipping and handling when the 12 items only cost $1.00 apiece, or $12.00 total. They weigh very little, probably an ounce apiece at the best. It's obvious that they are sell low, but gouge you on the shipping and handling. It would be so easy for them to simply wrap the 12 items in bubble wrap, stick them in a single envelope, and send that by flat rate air. I would expect that it should not cost more than $5.00 or so. As long as node's IP addresses stay the same during the transition, the node will be able connect to other nodes and receive connections from other nodes. The problem is most users have dynamic IP's which change regularly. Without the registration server to keep the list updated, these users will be unable to connect to other nodes or receive connections from other nodes once their IP address changes. Everyone now is depending on a local copy of a list of nodes and IP addresses which was last updated around 3:45PM PST on 8/13. Then create a subdirectory below that with a directory name the same as your Allstar node-id (e.g. 2541). If you host multiple nodes with that same asterisk server, create peer directories for each of your other nodes. Now just restart asterisk (astres.sh) to activate it. The wav files are nicely compressed using the GSM 6.10 codec so take up surprisingly little space. I will see what I can do in that regard. TXVoice and TXTone are at 300 and 175 respectively. I did a 'top' while there was audio activity connecting and disconnecting from the Echotest server. It peaked near 22.3 and only one time at 24.8. I was thinking RF may have been affecting the URI, hence the ferrites. I am not ruling out the radio as the cause directly though, I understand that some of these models will exhibit some erratic behavior when turned down too far based on the rated average power. I am going to turn it back up to it's rated power and see what happens as well. -Shawn From jrorke at cogeco.ca Wed Aug 18 03:21:24 2010 From: jrorke at cogeco.ca (REDBUTTON_CTRL) Date: Tue, 17 Aug 2010 23:21:24 -0400 Subject: [App_rpt-users] A few questions about migrating old nodes Message-ID: <4C6B51B4.6020907@cogeco.ca> I have a couple of questions on old node migration. 1) I have a box in London that has 2 nodes on it. With the current website software, once a migration node is assigned to a server it can't be moved by a sysop. This will eventually be fixed, but for now, only Jim WB6NIL can move a node to another server as it has to be done with database SQL commands. I can't do this for you as I'm not cognizant of the structure of the underlying database. Please send am off-list message to WB6NIL requesting the node be moved from one server to another. For now its very helpful that you figure out in advance which server you want to assign the node to when doing a migration. > > Should I have set up a separate server for each node and set the > location I want to be displayed? > If this is the way to do that then how do I remove a node from the > server I setup? > > 2) At another site I have a box with 3 nodes, 2357, 27185 and 1801 a > private node. > > When I make the server for this box do I need to attach the private node > as well as the other 2 nodes? > can I leave it off? The website software does not concern itself with private nodes. In this case it is better to set this server up as register only unless you are an advanced asterisk user. When you migrate the other two nodes, that server will be set to register only by default. > > Thanks, > > Jon VA3RQ > > > _______________________________________________ > App_rpt-users mailing list > App_rpt-users at qrvc.com > http://qrvc.com/mailman/listinfo/app_rpt-users > See above comments Steve WA6ZFT From specialq.que at ntlworld.com Wed Aug 18 06:49:50 2010 From: specialq.que at ntlworld.com (Doug Hutchison) Date: Wed, 18 Aug 2010 07:49:50 +0100 Subject: [App_rpt-users] Test Message-ID: <4C6B828E.90300@ntlworld.com> ...functionality of out bound mails. Message-ID: <4c6ba51e.0e8e650a.1f84.03be@mx.google.com> I've been trying to install Asterisk/AllStar on my existing X server. The purpose of this is to create a conference bridge, and eventually link it to an existing IRLP/Echolink conference. In time, I hope to run multiple conferences on the server and provide AllStar support for a few conferences. Anyway, I have one show stopping problem and some queries. The show stopper is ztdummy. When I attempt to load it, it causes a kernel panic. The "known issues" so far discovered date back to 2007. Anyone able to unearth any more on this issue? The queries are to do with how I link to the IRLP/Echolink reflector. chan_echolink would be the obvious choice, but to make this work, I would have to bind the Echolink ports to a single IP, so they don't conflict with Echolink on other IPs on the same system. Is this possible? chan_irlp would probably be more problematic, and again it would need to be bound to a specific IP. It would be nice to have some sort of "raw" Speak Freely, RTP or Echolink support, to allow "off grid" links, like I use with thebridge and thelinkbox. I suspect that would require a new channel driver. 73 de VK3JED / VK3IRL http://vkradio.com From kt9ac at ameritech.net Wed Aug 18 11:59:04 2010 From: kt9ac at ameritech.net (Tony KT9AC) Date: Wed, 18 Aug 2010 06:59:04 -0500 Subject: [App_rpt-users] Re-Registration In-Reply-To: <4C6B49A9.30202@kuggie.com> References: <129094459-1282098200-cardhu_decombobulator_blackberry.rim.net-901625447-@bda249.bisx.prod.on.blackberry> <4C6B49A9.30202@kuggie.com> Message-ID: <4C6BCB08.2040401@ameritech.net> Kevin, I signed up Monday and waited for a "welcome email" for a little while. Maybe try another mobile to see if you can duplicate the symptoms, or see if the power supply is bogging down when the M120 goes into transmit (i.e. voltage drops from the load). A 10-25W M120 should be run between that power range; a 25-40W in that range. My M120 is a 1-10W model and I keep it at 3W running just fine. Another tip: the URI and/or USB FOB handles PL encode/decode just fine but not DPL. If you want to use DPL, setup the radios to use the 'PL and COS' logic output and configure the interface to look for a 'carrier' signal only from the radio (in the rpt.conf file). So basically the radio does all the signal work and just tells the interface a signal is present, removing the need for DSP processing. The kernel panic almost seems like the module might be compiled against a different kernel than the one that is running for the DomU. Are there any clues in the panic ?? Do you still have any control over the system after the panic where you might be able to glean some clues from dmesg ?? In addition, there is one modification I've had to make to the zaptel source in order for it run correctly within a Xen DomU. ztdummy attempts to use the RTC which is incorrect on Xen - I've had to comment out part of zaptel-1.4.12.1/kernel/ztdummy.c to prevent it from making that choice. I've spent some time trying to make tbd/tlb work with Asterisk; I've managed to make lots of garbled sounds with chan_rtpDir thus far and that's about it. -Shawn _______________________________________________ App_rpt-users mailing list App_rpt-users at qrvc.com http://qrvc.com/mailman/listinfo/app_rpt-users From specialq.que at ntlworld.com Wed Aug 18 15:26:53 2010 From: specialq.que at ntlworld.com (Doug Hutchison) Date: Wed, 18 Aug 2010 16:26:53 +0100 Subject: [App_rpt-users] Lots of good documenttion on the Asterisk app_rpt application Message-ID: <4C6BFBBD.1000702@ntlworld.com> https://allstarlink.org/app-rpt.qrvc.com Would be good to have access the information contained in these old system pages....comes up with error 404. Well, chan_rtpdir offers the ideal solution, but on tbd, there are bugs in chan_rtpdir support, due to the repacking code between IRLP and Echolink (that converts between the different packet sizes). When IRLP and chan_rtpdir are both in use, things break. :( The problems are all on the tbd side of things, but it's not a high priority to get fixed. :( Using chan_echolink would require me to be able to bind the Echolink ports to a specific IP, because most of the IPs on the box have a separate tbd or tlb instance listening on the Echolink ports. running Asterisk as the reflector itself is not feasible, there are several hooks needed to interface the reflector binary to the reflector code, and these are quite different to what IRLP expects. >- Jeremy, KD0EAV > > > > > 73 de VK3JED / VK3IRL > > http://vkradio.com > > >_______________________________________________ >App_rpt-users mailing list >App_rpt-users at qrvc.com >http://qrvc.com/mailman/listinfo/app_rpt-users 73 de VK3JED / VK3IRL http://vkradio.com From david.osborn at manx.net Thu Aug 19 18:08:19 2010 From: david.osborn at manx.net (David Osborn) Date: Thu, 19 Aug 2010 19:08:19 +0100 Subject: [App_rpt-users] Process death! To upgrade our version of Asterisk to a later version of Asterisk requires a lot of effort to port over all of our changes and test them. We aren't going to do this unless there is some event which leaves us no choice but to do so. Skype compatibility is definitely not one of these. Steve WA6ZFT From wa1sot at pcom.com Sun Aug 22 17:34:18 2010 From: wa1sot at pcom.com (Jim Richardson) Date: Sun, 22 Aug 2010 13:34:18 -0400 (EDT) Subject: [App_rpt-users] Skype and newer versions of asterisk In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <35170.207.30.52.2.1282498458.squirrel@arkival.dnsalias.com> There an easy way to run whatever version of asterisk you want that also requires minimal changes in your allstarlink node setup, just some additions to iax.conf and extensions.conf. You do need to set up another computer for the newer asterisk. Then simply create an IAX trunk between your newer asterisk and your allstar node asterisk. I've migrated my node to the new system, I am in the process of changing my config files to the new system so I can use the Web Transceiver etc. I am changing extensions.conf as little as possible and inserting "#include iax_additional.conf" as the last line of the file so most of my changes are in this other file. I'm also going to use the same technique on iax.conf by "#include iax_additional.conf" as the last line of that file. I am running PBX In A Flash (PIAF) for my phone PBX and Limey Linux for my allstar node. I have been running this way for over a year. I have the ability to make and receive calls from Skype as well as PSTN, VOIP and ROIP. I simply call into my PIAF PBX from any of the above and dial my extension for the allstar node and now I can access my node. It also works the other way where my allstar node can dial an extension on my PIAF PBX and go out on any trunk be it Skype, VOIP, or PSTN. My motivation in doing it this way was the ability to use the GUI in PIAF to set up an IVR and all calls from anywhere get the ability to be routed to anywhere. I will post after I have finished my edits and tested my config. But (I am told) it works. The advantage of using Skype from your hotel room is that Skype somehow makes pretty good sounding audio out of a poor internet connection ... a connection that would really trash IAX communications (based on my experience and others with side-by-side comparisons). The advantage of a channel (I think), versus reverse auto-patch, is that you do not need someone to "answer the phone" at the repeater end, to let you in. It seems to be working fine but... If the ethernet cable is not plugged in and the node is rebooted Asterisk starts but the URIs are not running. Once I plug in the internet then the fobs start working. This node was built using the old system but the version of APp-Rpt is 0.255. If the cable is connected then it boots fine. Also I tried connecting to a switch with no internet connection and rebooted - same thing none of the USB interfaces were not working. Plugged the router in then the fobs start. If I disconnect internet the node works ok. Its just at boot up that it has this problem. Older nods didn't seem to care about the internet not connected. If I put the node on DHCP then it boot up ok and the fobs work. Any ideas? My concern is if this node is deployed and internet is lost with a power failure then the node will hang until internet is back. that would take down the repeater that it is planed to control. Message-ID: <3626.98.250.154.100.1282678506.squirrel@iridium7.michiganbroadband.com> I'm pretty sure I moved my old node (2586) to the new system per all of the great instructions but am a little confused with the new web status reports to do with nodes. My node is still registering successfully. In the new interface under Network and "all online nodes" I see many nodes but not my own (2586). However if I click on Network\System-Wide Node List It shows up in that list just fine (database query/report takes ~60 seconds) just as a side note I'm sure you've noticed that. If I try Network\Node status\Node 2586 I get a single line pof text output that shows the time and "node number status of [surrounding node 2586]" that does not change whether the node is registered into the system or not. I realize thes features of the site might not be fully implemented yet. But I'm also not exactly sure what to look for to confirm my migration of the old node to the new system was successful and 100% complete. I had planned to keep this a manual configured node.. But may be the only way to test the system is to let the system configure the node (by setting it up this way) and letting the system configure it and then switch it back to manual config later. Thanks!! Very cool new site & system concept! The separate server and node organizational units may be a little confusing at first but far as I can tell is laying the framework for a very cool & exciting future for app_rpt and allstart link network! I'd love to see it in the future if this were to take a direction where I could have one "server" entity manage multiple "node" entities within my own private WAN where the server reports all of the details back to allstar link.. And the node boxes themselves would not have to have any knowledge of the actual Internet or allstar link in order to work. I may be getting may ahead of myself there on that one. But I am curious if this is where it is headed. Steve -Steve Steve Michigan Broadband Systems Inc. This should make the thing happen: 1) Set your ID timer to 30000 (30 seconds) and the polite ID timer to 3000. 2) Restart asterisk, to be sure to get the first ID. 3) Key the repeater and let the first regular ID fire. Don't interrupt it. (I think you can if you want and still get the same results, but just let it run.) 4) After the repeater drops, key the radio. Stay keyed. The ID will actually take something longer than 33 seconds to come back around on the guitar. In any case, stay keyed until the ID plays. 5) You will hear the talkover ID. Stay keyed up, and you will then hear the regular ID play almost immediately after the talkover ID finishes. Most people will probably see this condition only rarely. It's most prominent when playing news bulletins, although it just happened on a net. It is important to note that interrupting the regular ID does switch over to the talkover ID as expected, and the regular ID doesn't play in that case. -- Buddy Brannan, KB5ELV - Erie, PA Phone: (814) 860-3194 or 888-75-BUDDY From ke2n at cs.com Wed Aug 25 13:39:23 2010 From: ke2n at cs.com (Ken) Date: Wed, 25 Aug 2010 09:39:23 -0400 Subject: [App_rpt-users] The ID Bug In-Reply-To: <63E9E05A-A249-4AA5-9AEA-4A58DDF11F1A@brannan.name> References: <63E9E05A-A249-4AA5-9AEA-4A58DDF11F1A@brannan.name> Message-ID: <004901cb445a$edc7a2a0$c956e7e0$@com> Thanks for doing that ... I can confirm that yesterday I heard the (polite) Morse ID followed by one of the voice recordings, in the middle of a repeated transmission here. Like you said, it does not happen often (and you need a chatty bunch of people). (version 0.255) Part 2 I had earlier reported that the timeout message was playing during a bulletin playback, despite the fact that I had selected "control state 0". I have to report that was due to pilot error. I had neglected to remove the semicolon before the [controlstate] stanza header. Of course, it plays the message saying 'SS Zero' it's just that control state zero is not defined anywhere ... so you end up with the default state. This also explains why people were able to make internet connections to the machine while the bulletin was playing (NOICE was not active). Observation Bulletins using 'playback' are not heard on Echolink. So if you do not disable incoming connections, somebody can come on Echolink, not hear anything, yet be talking in the middle of the bulletin playback. Observation 2 Even if you do not disable the time out timer, the bulletin still plays/transmits to completion on the local node. Somehow the timeout timer, while it times the playback and announces a timeout, does not stop the playback from being transmitted. If the playing node is linked to another node, the timeout timer there will kill the that transmitter after the timer expires. If you want to play a bulletin through all your connected nodes, you need to turn off the timer on all the other nodes (using the *4 facility, or by computer). I'm already familiar with Asterisk as professional pbx but new to app_rpt. Right now I have some issues with the configuration and hope that I can get help on this list. I've already read a lot of messages in the archive and also took a look at the source code but - as Bono said - I still haven't found what I'm looking for. :-) 1. I bought a URI board from DMK, assembled the cable and connected it to two Motorola GM 900 transceivers (1x rx, 1x tx). As described in the Motorola schematics I used pin 24 on rx and 25 on tx to get flat audio and give full audio to tx. If I look for the signals coming from the rx on a spectrum analyzer I can see flat audio with a potential of about 500 MV. But as I start the analyzing procedure with "radio tune rxnoise" I always get the error message that the audio is "too loose". "radio tune rxvoice" seems to work correctly but detecting of CTCSS tones as described on the website also fails without any additional error messages. I adjusted the squelch manually to a value of about 800 but I'm not sure if this is the right direction to go. Is anyone else using Motorola GM transceivers and can report the same issues? I think that 500 MV should be enough for an URI board. Am I wrong with that? 2. My test repeater has an audio delay of about 200 ms. Some guys told me that this is much longer than it seems to be on their systems. So, is there a way to reduce or manipulate the delay produced by dsp? Which parameters can affect this? app_rpt runs under Debian on a Core2 Duo machine with 4Gig of memory and a fast SATA hdd. 3. Most of repeaters in Germany are opened using 1750 Hz burst tone. To activate this I set the desired parameters in rpt.conf as described on the website . ----- Tearline begin rxburstfreq=1750 rxbursttime=500 rxburstthreshold=10 ----- Tearline end I also played around with the values but every time I activate rxburstfreq=1750 the repeater just doesn't do anything. If I enable debugging I can see ptt keying in the CLI but every time I press the 1750 call tone the CLI shows exactly nothing. On the spectrum I can see the 1750 hz tone very well so I know that there is a strength signal on the input. On the archive I saw that this error was already reported some weeks ago but it seems that no one did have a solution for it. I'm not sure what to do now because without this feature the whole software is just useless for me. :-( 4. In Germany nearly 90% or more of the repeaters work like the following scheme: - Repeater is opened using 1750 Hz burst tone. - When the repeater opens it first plays its id (regardless of its last id). - Now the user makes his call. After the user releases ptt the repeater stays open for a while (maybe 20 or 30 seconds). - At the moment the repeater opens a timer starts. If this timer exceeds the id is played again (beaconing). Usually this happens every 10 minutes (the timer is set to 600 seconds). - If the qso ends before the timer has exceeded the repeater closes and that's it. - Some operators like to have an id every 10 minutes regardless if the repeater is open or not. But most of them only want to have an id played if the repeater is still open. - Some repeaters have the ability to be opened using ptt only (carrier-detect) some seconds after the repeater has been used. For example, if the repeater closes a timer of 30 seconds starts. If the user presses the ptt within these 30 seconds the repeater opens again (usually without playing his id). If the timer exceeds and no one had pressed the ptt the repeater goes back to "normal operation mode" and reacts only on 1750 burst tone as described above. Setting the id timer to 10 minutes is no big deal and setting the hang timer to 30 seconds is also done easily. But I can't see how to be sure that the id is played every time the repeater opens? If not implemented yet, this could be a good moment to test out the facilities of Mantis. :-) Thanks for any help in advance. -- 73s, Nils, DO6NP From specialq.que at ntlworld.com Fri Aug 27 10:32:45 2010 From: specialq.que at ntlworld.com (Doug Hutchison) Date: Fri, 27 Aug 2010 11:32:45 +0100 Subject: [App_rpt-users] Install question Message-ID: <4C77944D.20208@ntlworld.com> Hi, Just tried to install - get to point where script asks for portal user name and password. Not sure what the actual problem is but if these are narrowband (8K03FE) radios there could be issues with the DSP squelch and the DSP CTCSS decoder. There was some talk of adding a narrowband switch to the chan_usbradio config file, but that hasn't happened yet. IMHO, With narrow band radios, you're probably better off not using the DSP routines for COR and CTCSS and instead configure the URI to use the inputs for COR and CTCSS. > > I adjusted the squelch manually to a value of about 800 but I'm not sure if > this is the right direction to go. This may be able to be reduced by using chan_simpleusb instead of chan_usbradio, but the bulk of the delay is probably due to the TDM multiplexing going on in zaptel and asterisk. > app_rpt runs under Debian on a Core2 Duo machine with 4Gig of memory and a > fast SATA hdd. > > 3. I run node 2498 (Echolink 5503 and IRLP 5503). I wanted to create a backup pc of my fully working node and as I have a spare PIV 2Ghz Pc. I did the following. 1. Installed the Centos 5.5 CD onto the new pc with USB Sound fob in USB port.( This device I have already tested and know this works) 2. Followed and all updates were completed in about 40 minutes 3. I was prompted for an IP address and I selected DHCP 4. When asked my password I selected a high encryption password 5. Then finally asked to insert my node number...2498 6. Password as supplied by All star on some months ago I then typed in. I was then at the logon prompt so Logon with root Password used and I was at the console I then deleted the asterisk folder on this fresh build and contents and copied (using winscp) the asterisk folder and contents that I had backup off my working but powered off main node. When I finally ifconfig and made sure the private IP was identical to my main All star node that I had firstly copied the complete Asterisk contents over was already turned off( No IP conflicts) I then telinit 6 and thus a reboot On power up the IP was the same. I copied the IRLP backup into temp Then tried irlpsetup.sh ( Was unable to run) All worked ok 3 weeks ago when I ran the identical command. I was then unable to connect to no links be it Echolink or All Star. ( I was unable to resolve Echolink by a ping Europe.echolink.org. path unknown) Any ideas I have made sure the Asterisk contents match size for size of my working node and is in the correct place. I have made sure the A was not in the iax configuration I have put this backup Pc under the bench as work in progress and turned my main All Star back on. After 10 minutes all now is fine and working has anyone any idea on what I missed please? Many thanks Keith Handscombe G7DNT ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Keith, I don't claim any sort of "guru" status but it looks to me like you've unwittingly answered your own question! If you can't ping a host by name, the first thing to check is whether you can ping it by its IP address. If you can, then it's a problem with name resolution. [root at IOMHub ~]# ping europe.echolink.org PING server2.echolink.org (216.69.181.113) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from ip-216-69-181-113.ip.secureserver.net (216.69.181.113): icmp_seq=1 ttl=45 time=148 ms Since Allstar uses FQDN (Fully-qualified domain names) to address hosts, if name resolution is broke - so is AllStar! Check in /etc/resolv.conf and see if it has an entry for your ADSL router's address. Mine looks like this: [root at IOMHub etc]# cat resolv.conf ; generated by /sbin/dhclient-script nameserver 192.168.0.1 You can check the network settings by entering "system-config-network-tui". This loads a text-based interface for setting-up the network. If your router isn't dishing-up DNS - and I have had tremendous trouble with a D-Link router that did just that - you could always use a public DNS instead (like 8.8.8.8). Not sure if any of this helps, but perhaps it will. Good Luck. I understand the * for the start of the command and close with the #. When I test the *52, it does say the time. That is not what I am getting at. I want to occasionally say, "*50 for information", then when somebody pushes *50, it will play another recording that will have the basic instructions for repeater usage. I can't get the playback command to work. I also tried using the playback command in the [functions27178] stanza vise the [macro27178] stanza, so I must be using the command wrong. Can anyone assist me with this? KI6PSP -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The node/server configuration pages have an odd navigation to them, greying out options unexpectedly when you submit your changes and then move to the next 'tab' if you will. Is a GPS mandatory or will it use the already configured server location coordinates? That's enough criticism for the moment.
