Consider this file to be a template to get started with. I haven't managed to get the AUX 1,2,3 outputs going yet, but PTT and COS seem to be working FB. My node radios have built-in PL squelch, which I'm using at the moment. I'm also using the software DTMF decoder. At this point, I'm using an unmodified CM108 fob and my homebrew IRLP board. 73. I ordered item E14615 which contains the chip number CM-108 and is slightly easier to solder to than a couple of other usb-fobs that I have ordered from other sources. Another nice thing is that they are not glued so they are easy to pry apart without damaging the plastic case. There are little plastic pins interlocking the 2 halfs so I started prying at the usb connector and slowly worked my way around with my fingernail until I got back to the other side of the usb connector and then did that again and they come apart without breaking the pins so they will go back together without glue or tape. BestOfferBuy.com sells the E14615 for $6.90 each with free (about 12 day) shipping. My order of 4 on Oct 13, 2010 shipped from Hong Kong and arrived in Illinois on Oct 25, 2010 at a total cost $27.60 Here is a URL to the part http://www.bestofferbuy.com/cmedia-cm108-virtual-71surround-usb-20-external-sound-card-with-hardware-volume-control-and-mute-p-25821.html If the URL doesn't work then go to http://www.bestofferbuy.com and search for E14615 Of course as time passes the part could change, but all that they shipped to me were as described. They say that they remove the CD so that the item will come through customs without delay. Apparently when a CD shows up on an xray they think it might be a copyright infringement and so they delay it to inspect it further. What I ordered from a different company in Hong Kong did come with a CD and it took 65 days to get here, almost all of that time was with it sitting in customs. I had a similar problem with something different with a CD that I ordered from Canada, customs delayed it almost 3 months, because of the CD. It is a good thing that we don't need the CD for this use. If one is using hardware cor from a radio, then it needs to pull to ground if active low or active hi. It does not need to have a voltage output. It just needs to pull to ground. If your radio is sourcing a voltage but doesn't pull to ground then the URI or fob may not see a signal change and think the cor is open. App_ Rpt may think the receiver is open depending on your settings in usbradio.conf in the "COR from" line. This is because any sourced voltage from the radio is blocked by the diode going to one of the input lines. The CM108 chip has internal pullup resistors on its cor input lines so it doesnt need external voltage, hence the diode in line. In all may systems I modify the radios to have open collector that pulls to ground on a signal. All my systems are "active low" this way. If you have a radio that doesn't pull to ground then you can use the cor signal to drive an NPN transistor. connect the collector to the fob/ URI and invert your setting in usbradio.conf. One other thing, On simplex nodes I have seen some radios where the cor goes active on transmit when connected through the Packet interface to fobs/URIs. In this case you might want to use DSP squelch instead of external hardware for cor. Just some thoughts. It is currently working correctly but the strange thing is that intermittently (sometimes many hours apart), it will go into a state where it thinks there is a reason to be keyed, even though as far as I can tell there is nothing telling it to key. While it is not in this bad state, everything seems to work. Id timers, time out timers, hang time, cor, ptt, repeat audio, telemetry, linking, unlinking, etc. But once in a while the transmitter comes on the air and stays on the air until timeout, then drops off the air and then nothing that I do will allow it to come on the air again until I reboot. From the dump it looks like it is some mysterious link 0 that is the reason for it keying. I have been tweaking audio levels today and have been rebooting every few hours because of making hardware changes related to audio coupling with the radios and the USB-fob, so it has not done the mysterious timeout today. I plan to leave it alone tonight and see how it is tomorrow after running all night without any configuration changes. By the way, my radio outputs 5 volts with no signal and outputs 0 volts with received signal, I use that 5 volts to drive the base of a transistor through a 10k series resister, the emitter grounded, and the collector to the USB-fob cor (cm108 pin 48 voldn). This is just temporary as I intend to use the DSP PL decode in the future. For now this is working, except when it looses its mind and needs a reboot. For a long while, I was getting occasional complaints that something really strange was happening almost always related to the fact the chan_echolink used the astdb (Asterisk database) subsystem. Then recently, I got a LOT of complaints of echolink doing some VERY strange stuff, and again, it appeared to be related to the astdb. It turns out that, for some reason, the astdb and ext4 filesystems dont seem to get along very well. Im not sure if astdb and anything *really* gets along very well when its used as heavily as it was in chan_echolink. So, I completely re-vamped the echolink directory handling stuff in chan_echolink, entirely abandoning the use of astdb. Please try the latest sources from the SVN. You may find that it works much better. I have hit a bit of a roadblock, however, and am soliciting help from the experienced hands to identify what I'm doing wrong. We have an Asterisk host which is the core of the house phone system. It's been in production since September, 2003, and has seen several Asterisk upgrades and hardware enhancements over the years. The most recent upgrade was about a month ago, which brought in a new box running CentOS 5.5 and Asterisk 1.4.36. The box is populated with two Digium cards (T1 and quad-FXS) and is connected to an Adtran TA750 channel bank; we're using 18 FXS and two FXO channels. A few weeks ago, I spent some quality time on the phone with David Kramer of DMK and discussed his hardware, software, and implementation recommendations. We ended up purchasing a URI from him, and an interface cable for our Yaesu FT-847 from Marshall Oldham (KE6PCV). Using the ACID distro, I brought the original Asterisk box back to life as the wireless Asterisk host. The plan is to run a proof-of-concept project to determine if all of this is useful. If the answer is "yes", then we'll buy a dedicated radio for Asterisk integration and join Allstar. So, on to the present situation. On the house phone system, I have an extension which places an IAX call to the wireless system and connects to the Yaesu via Rpt(). When I call the extension, what I say on the phone is transmitted by the Yaesu and received by a monitoring HT. Big win! After that success, I attempted to set the squelch and voice levels with radio-tune-menu. I'm able to perform Step 1 (auto-detect the received noise level without carrier) and update the configuration file, but can do nothing else. I suspect that (at least) there are some wonky values in usbradio.conf; would you mind taking a look? I appreciate any help you can provide. When you shut your PC off, the parallel port pins will tend to go to ground. If you use low true keying, this will keep the transmitter keyed. To correct this problem, put an NPN transistor (2N2222 or 2N4401) with a 1K-2.2K resistor from the base to the PTT pin on the parallel port and change the config to using high true keying. Connect the emitter of the NPN transistor to ground and the collector to the ptt line of the radio. When the PC is turned off or reset, the parallel port output will want to go low, turning the NPN transistor off. The collector of the NPN transistor will then go high, unkeying the rig. When PTT is asseted high by app_rpt, this will turn on the NPN transistor, and PTT connected from the collector to the rig will be forced low. It appears from the screen shot that the drive is having a hard time reading the media. This in turn is preventing the root file system from mounting. If it were me, I would first shutdown the system until I was ready to recover the data. I would get a backup hard drive and a copy of system rescue cd (http://www.sysresccd.org/Main_Page). Next I would boot from the system rescue cd and try to mount /dev/sda? (?=which every partition contains your data, usually 1). If that works, I would mount the backup drive and use rsync to backup the data. If /dev/sda1 won't mount, then I would try and make an image backup of the drive using partimage or dd. If none of the above work, there is a trick that sometimes helps. Heat can aggravate hard drive failures, so pulling the drive and sticking it in the refrigerator for an hour will cool the drive down. Then quickly stick the drive back in the computer. Retry the recovery steps discussed above. This trick sometimes allows the drive to function just long enough to recover the data. I wish you luck. -- 73 K9BY Brett Johnson From sales at qrvc.com Mon Nov 8 15:17:29 2010 From: sales at qrvc.com (Stephen Rodgers) Date: Mon, 08 Nov 2010 07:17:29 -0800 Subject: [App_rpt-users] ACID app_rpt how to recover from crash? This error has nothing to do with ACID itself. Your hard disk is getting an I/O error and that is probably because of a bad sector on the disk. You should replace the hard disk and install from scratch. We are no longer allowed to interface with IRLP. This is due to Dave Cameron's request that support for IRLP be removed from AllStarLink. You will probably have to use sox to convert the .gsm files to another format, such as wav (sox a.gsm a.wav) and then edit with your favorite audio editor (audacity, etc). Then you can convert back to .gsm (sox a.gsm a.wav) and use them on your system. > I just tried using audacity-win-1.3.12 but could not get it to > recognize the .gsm files You need to convert to a format audacity understands first, then convert back when you are done. Right now it keys up, sends CT, drops. Keys back up, sends ID and waits about 4 seconds before dropping. Tail message timers are commented out (but not set to zero). It's a new install so I might have something not "standard", but felt I would ask here for examples. Also, I've combed through the archives, but is there a way to not encode PL during an ID if all the inputs are quiet? Maybe the Event Management Subsystem might be helpful, so we'll see. Chuck, Try 'cop,58' for "TX CTCSS On Input only enable" and 'cop,59' to disable it. KB2EAR requested this about a year ago - "Add the ability to have the transmit CTCSS only while valid input is present, and off during hangtime, IDs, announcements etc. " I'm having fun though learning new things!! It pays to read the descriptions in the source code, even though its been years since I've touched C++. Sorry for the extra bandwidth. We keep a daily log book and I have to log all calls on my node. At the moment I have a third party mp3 recorder running 24/7 from the speaker feed off another radio. I then burn this to audio file daily as a log of all calls so the station can be inspected and I have a record of all station activity. With my normal daily activity I write all conversations in a log book but having an unattended node this is not possible hence the mp3 recorded files. Does this system create a log file that shows daily traffic in to my node so I can make my life easier than logging mp3 files please? However, every time the system boots, it gets as far as a line saying " Freeing unused kernel memory: 292k freed" and then freezes! These systems used to run a version of Debian Linux and I have managed to gain root access to one of them but am I right in guessing that this Linux build will be no good for Allstar? Has anyone else had this problem with the boot sequence freezing? I am sure I have probably done something wrong! I used a Ubuntu system to create the CF card from the image using dd from a terminal screen. Is there another way I can build Asterisk / app_rpt on to the existing CF card with Debian on it? You decide where the log files and QSO recordings go by setting it with the "archivedir" keyword in rpt.conf. By default, "archivedir" is commented out so no logging or recording is done until you uncomment it and set it to the path you want. The transmissions are recorded using the GSM 6.1 encoder which does a great job of retaining audio quality but only uses a 13kbps data rate. I did not realize this carrier was being caused by me right away, until I happened to glance at the URI and saw it was not blinking - just s solid green light. I don't know what caused this, but I would like to find out and fix it so it does not happen again. I could not gain access to my node via SSH so ended up having to just warm boot it to get it back to normal. Any ideas? 8-Dale -- Open your mind, Read, Learn, Think, Apply, and Have Fun! If this is the case, your USB conf looks like you have NO audio configured for left channel and VOICE configured on the right channel. Either change the wiring or change the usb conf comment to allow voice on the left channel. txmixa = left channel tcmixb = right channel I may not be clearly reading your setup, but I think that may be the problem. When a zap pseudo channel closes such as when a courtesy tone or ID sequence finishes the channel gets torn down in Asterisk and the hangup message is printed on the console. As of this evening, we have success!! The BeagleBoard is capable of talking to 2 radios (either half or full duplex) using the radio's COR and CTCSS decoders (sorry, there isnt enough CPU power to do the DSP processing, like in chan_usbradio). It will also talk to a URI (or 2 or maybe even 3??) using chan_simpleusb. I am designing an I/O card, which properly conditions both the analog and digital signals in and out of the BeagleBoard, and will provide general-purpose GPIO pins for whatever the user's needs are. It also may contain a DC-DC converter, so that the system may be powered from a 12 volt (well, like maybe 9-18 volt, actually) DC input, allowing use in an automobile and various configuration of battery/solar/ wind-power. For those interested, I posted the working chan_beagle.c source in the SVN, and will update it as the project moves along. Currently it only supports 1 fully operational channel, but that's because my test hardware was not intended to do anything other then that. We will also post the working kernel sources, plus an entire image of the 4GB flash card, for ease of installation. We are running for two months now here in Bucharest a small network with app_rpt working on Asus WL500 Premium routers which are around 20euro at second hand. There are two routers each having a VHF rig attached so that you could do radio-IP-radio communication. The requirements were to use serial line for PTT and COR therefore an USB2serial converter is used. WL500 routers have 2 external USB ports and 2 internal. I'm using 3 USB ports for this project: 1. USB storage 2. Audio card on USB (I'm using CM108 too for this project) 3. USB2Serial converter used for PTT and COR. As channel driver we made a new channel driver, chan_alsaradio.c since the existing channel drivers do not allow serial signaling with the radio nor using other sound cards than CMedia based ones. The linux distribution I'm using is OpenWrt backfire 10.03. The processing power of this small board is limited and do not allow using fancy DSP techniques but for end to end dial in and communication it is just the right one. The processor could be overclocked to a higher frequency is one interested. However, the chances are good that it will be able to Run AllStarLink. If you only want to run a single radio for a simplex node, this may work fine using a URI. You will have to use simpleusb like we are. Our solution with the BeagleBoard can run at least two radio channels using the native audio hardware, and at least one more channel using a URI. We haven't gotten into using the on board DSP at all, and probably won't as long as we are getting good results with what we are doing. > 2. My newest "toy" is a "PogoPlug Pro". It has less ram and flash, > but has 4 USB ports! I wouldn't want to attempt running AllStarLink with less than 512 MB RAM. While we did have it running on a Beagle-C3 for awhile, the results were less than we would be happy with. > I will be working with GuruPlugs next. The amount of memory is important, and if these have less than 256 Mb RAM, it's going to be difficult to get good results from it, even with a URI for audio. The BeagleBoard-C3 has 256 Mb Flash and 256 Mb RAM and it did run a single channel using simpleusb and an URL, but didn't run it as well as we wanted. We are perfectionists, and your mileagle may vary. :D 8-Dale -- Open your mind, Read, Learn, Think, Apply, and Have Fun! AllStarLink Node 2392 | EchoLink node 6185 | 73, from N7PKT! The version of Asterisk used in ACID is version 1.4 and it probably will not be updated anytime soon as app_rpt is highly dependent on the way Asterisk 1.4 does things. Digium recently released Asterisk 1.8 and Asterisk 1.6 is widely used. It may be better to use a more recent Asterisk version for a phone system. I run an Asterisk box separate from my radio system to provide flexibility should I want to take the radio system down to work on it. For dedicated standalone Asterisk system, the O'Reilly Asterisk book does a good job of explaining how to set Asterisk up. There are interface cards available which will allow you to interface to an existing POTS line; but another option you might consider is finding an Internet phone company to use (ie callcentric.com) - they offer rather affordable options for phone service with only a network connection required. You can also use SIP phones (in the house) to interface to the Asterisk PBX - in lieu of purchasing hardware interfaces and running phone lines; just use your local network. >> Any good detailed documentation on how to do this? >> > It can be done, but there are no instructions to do this with an app_rpt/asterrisk as that > would not be worth the effort to maintain and document as few hams would be interested. Not sure I would agree with the "few hams would be interested" -- maybe more of them need to know about this ability. That's one of the greatest features in my opinion - it's incredible flexibility in integrating with telecommunication systems. > The version of Asterisk used in ACID is version 1.4 and it probably will not be updated > anytime soon as app_rpt is highly dependent on the way Asterisk 1.4 does things. > > Digium recently released Asterisk 1.8 and Asterisk 1.6 is widely used. > It may be better to use a more recent Asterisk version for a phone system. I completely agree with this statement. If you are going to set up an Asterisk phone system - do it SEPERATELY from your AllStar system. AllStar being just another Asterisk system can be configured in a variety of ways to allow it to communicate with another Asterisk phone server (ie via IAX2). This will allow you to use some of the newer features of 1.6 (and 1.8). > I run an Asterisk box separate from my radio system to provide flexibility > should I want to take the radio system down to work on it. > > For dedicated standalone Asterisk system, the O'Reilly Asterisk book does a good job of explaining how to set > Asterisk up. > > Steve > WA6ZFT From mgodoy at cestel.es Tue Nov 30 16:02:13 2010 From: mgodoy at cestel.es (Max Godoy) Date: Tue, 30 Nov 2010 17:02:13 +0100 Subject: [App_rpt-users] Third Party Call Control through AMI Message-ID: <4CF52005.23203.1A6DC22@mgodoy.cestel.es> Hi everybody! We are trying to integrate radios in an Emergecy Call Center environement. We control the queues, users and vectoring of the system externally through the AMI API. We want to be able to mix phone calls and radio calls. The URI seems a good and inexpensive solution for small and medium setups (2 radios, a dozen phone lines and 4 agents). The problem is that we need to control the system from a central point using a Third Party Call Control strategy. We have chosen the AMI interface in Asterisk as it is aimed at this sort of operations. Has anybody interfaced the app_rpt module with AMI? Can anybody give us a lead or a hint on how to do that? Is there a different radio control system that interacts with AMI?
