I discovered a while back that I could bind my Echolink node to a hub node instead of an RF node. This has a few advantages: * Echolink nodes can not cause any RF node to transmit, unless I specifically link an RF node to the hub node. * Any RF node on the server can share a single Echolink node for outbound calls * Echolink functionality can be utilized on any RF node * Softphone or Echolink for Android/Iphone can be used on Echolink without tying up an RF node I am very happy with the functionality when Echolink is connected to my hub node. When I began running multiple RF nodes from one server, I was afraid that I would have to designate one node/band for Echolink operation. I'm often amazed at the capability of App_rpt! For now, connecting Echolink nodes hear only "callsign connected to node 2210" and my custom voice ID, but I may change that in the future. I may record a message telling connecting stations to please remain connected for a few minutes.. I use a script that sends me a text messages upon connects/disconnects, and there is a certain amount of delay between the time an email is sent, and when I receive the message. 73 Kyle K0KN ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bryan D. On a recent visit to California I found out about Allstar Link and thought it would be a great way to connect to my old friends in California and Colorado from my home in Israel. I also maintain the two meter repeater in Jerusalem and I would like to and an Allstar node through a UHF link to my Allstar server. I have the URI and want to install the ACID on a Asus 8" EEEPC. I had a version of Asterisk on this PC before and it worked great for a couple of years as a small office telephone system. When I installed the Allstar Acid install, the E0 port would not open. I found references to the fact that Centos does not install drivers for WAN ports for the Asus product, but they could be added. Has anyone made an install using the Asus eeepc and would you have an Acid install that includes these drivers? 73, Eric WA6IGR/4Z5UG -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Now I want to simply want to install a new node into a new computer. I applied and was granted a new node number. Question is, what do you tell the new node when it's loading? You want a server? I tried that and though I was going to take the server away from the computer that is already my server. Does every node need a separate server? What happens if the server with the node on it goes down? Will the node that I'm trying install still work? I was never asked during the install what node to install. Why? This is all very confusing and not clearly documented anywhere that I can find. Thanks! The only glitch I seem to have is that the green URI light flashes continually whether I am TX, RX or nothing. I have since tried to tune the radio with the AllStar instructions but everything seems to fail. However, the actual connection is awesome. I recently started playing around with ACID on an old computer I have. I have no radio hardware hooked up yet but have been using iaxrpt and hub nodes to experiment and am learning a lot. Since I've got my feet wet I'm now planning a project with two nodes, most likely using a Piconode. One node will be a repeater, the other a remote base. The plan being to connect the two and control the base through the repeater. Instead of a remote base node I am thinking of setting the second as a simplex node. I will be using a Kenwood TM-V71a as the transceiver and am going to write my own control scripts for changing channels, data band side, and other settings. Other than parameter control, which is covered, and login/security, which I don't need, would there be any other advantages of setting it as a remote base node? I guess I haven't really seen info on it, but can another node even connect to a remote base node? That might answer my question right there. My second question is for the repeater node. Is there any way to have two different Rx Active 'states'? One which uses CSQ and only keys the local node, and the other uses CTCSS to key as usual? The reason I ask is if the two nodes are connected and you key the repeater to send DTMF command codes you would also key up the transceiver. I'd also like to be able to use the repeater locally without transmitting on the transceiver but keep it connected. I know I could change it to monitor, but that would still include keying it when sending the command. Why would you want to write any script for connecting, when you can set up the node as a remote base, and put the standard control information on that node? When you want to control the node, you do it with the "*4" command from the connected node. I use my repeater and remote base that way all the time. I said I was going write my own scripts for controlling, as in changing channels, what side of the radio the data band is set to, telling me what channels the radio is currently set to, setting the VFO, etc... The remote base node can only do that for certain radios as listed, of which the V71 is not one. Plus it wouldn't give me as much control as I want. The scripts are the easy part. Even using the command mode, doesn't that cause the base to transmit when you don't necessarily want it to? Maybe I'm being picky here, but if I'm changing a channel I certainly don't want that radio to be transmitting. Thanks for pointing out *4, though. I did a little research on it and learned a little more. When I hooked the cables up I didn't even need to tune the radio interface - it worked great out of the box. I only had a few small changes to the usbradio.conf file and it started working. The audio is exceptionally clear. I have connected several nodes simultaneously with participants using the web transceiver and RF. Setup passthrough for unmodified USB audio device (0d8c:000c CMedia dongle). No matter what combination of options or how many resources i throw at the guest system, i get VERY choppy audio out of the USB device. Audio on the IP side of the virtual machine is perfect. The host machine is 8 core 16 gigs ram. CPU usage is very low on both. There are tons of googles about choppy usb audio in virtualbox for a few years now with no clear fix. Im curious has anyone run into this problem on virtualbox or any other VM, and if so were they able to find a fix? dave From donh at sigma.net Mon Apr 23 04:35:43 2012 From: donh at sigma.net (Don Hackler) Date: Sun, 22 Apr 2012 21:35:43 -0700 Subject: [App_rpt-users] Zaptel timer problem after bootup - 5 minute delay Message-ID: <73BA6223-2617-408B-ACE8-27993ECFDA4F@sigma.net> Still working on getting a new system running... When I reboot the server, asterisk exits and restarts every 3-4 seconds for 5 minutes. The error message is : "Asterisk has detected a problem with your Zaptel configuration and will shutdown for your protection. You have options: You only have to compile Zaptel support into Asterisk if you need it. One option is to recompile without Zaptel support. You only have to load Zaptel drivers if you want to take advantage of Zaptel services. One option is to unload zaptel modules if you don't need them. If you need Zaptel services, you must correctly configure Zaptel." This message is coming from asterisk.c which is attempting to open /dev/zap/timer using ast_wait_for_input() with a 3 second timeout. The function is returning zero for almost exactly five minutes, when it finally returns non-zero and asterisk starts up. Any ideas on what's going on here? Other potential clues: all the /dev/zap/* entries are owned by root, but the udev zap configuration seems to imply they should be owned by asterisk. There is no asterisk user or group on the system. There is no /dev/zap/transcode entry. I am using a URI, to a a cable to an Alinco DR135 radio. The AllStar system works fine and audio that is received from AllStar or the antenna works perfectly but when I try to TX from my radio all I can hear is the kurtplunk (there must be a technical term for that) but no audio either to the computer or to the antenna. When I disconnect the radio cable or the URI the radio works fine to the antenna but when I reconnect I have the same symptoms. I think I changed a setting somewhere but I can't seem to find it in any conf files. My guess is that AllStar is sending a constant audio signal out through the URI that overwhelms the radio and will not let the ALinco radio TX. One other note - My system is also configured as an Echolink node I have restarted Asterisk and the server several times with and without the URI attached, If needed I can reinstall but I think troubleshooting will help me learn more. Can anyone help? Thanks for all of your help in advance. I am getting to know my way around the conf files.
