Not necessarily.  Some folks want stuff like that in there, others don't 
see a need for it.  Since app_rpt is pretty much roll-your-own and make 
it work like you want it to, in the spirit of open source, the shell 
system is there which works; any modifications or tweaking are up to the 
end user.  You think this is a chore...try learning the command syntax 
and macro language for hardware.  At least asterisk is a bit more 
natural-language oriented and simple to modify config files with a 
simple editor like VI or PICO.

It takes a while (10 min/20 min?) for your node to reregister with the 
upstream server.  You shouldn't have to reboot; unless your ISP is 
(probably) assigning you a random IP address out of the DHCP (Dynamic 
Host Configuration Protocol) pool they have, in which case, if your 
address changes at your end, then it has to re-propagate, again, upstream.

It's not a bug, it's a feature, they say.  If your internet connection 
is interrupted...just wait a few minutes.  Your node will reregister 
with Jim's servers when it reconnects.  Unless you have other issues in 
your network equipment that really aren't the fault of asterisk to resolve.
