Depends on how much time you have to devote. If your time is worth $0.00, then you can probably figure out how to make it work or make the programmatic changes to talk to the board. Sometimes it's just easier to spend a few dollars and know it's going to work (not to mention there's a deep pool of knowledge to draw from if you get stuck...). Sometimes the intellectual challenge is more satisfying. In the end, though, only you know what the goal is...:) As to the answer to your question...someone may know. -- Bryan In this world, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant. The repeaters both use commercial grade FM repeaters. The auto-switching between FM and DV is managed by an external multiplexer that Jon (VA3RQ) and I designed. In the case of repeaters that have two audio inputs (TXA and TD), the multiplexer allows for the switching of audio between these 2 inputs (FM audio into the TXA input and D-STAR 'data' into the TD input). For repeaters that have only one audio input, the Multiplexer caters for this case too. Please contact me off-list for further details. Just for the record, we are not selling the Multiplexer, it is an open source project, the schematic is available, you build it, you get to enjoy it :). Cheers! Ramesh. I know of one system where a fella made a special effort to get ACID running on Debian writing as infrequently as possible to CF media. All of the nodes crapped out within a few years. Limey Linux loads everything into RAM and dismounts the media. No chance of random glitches to the media. It's not that hard to install once you get dd figured out. It runs great. I have played extensively with it, and while I wanted to put together a FAQ/HOWTO, I didn't have time, and now have forgotten too much. But it would be very possible, but you'd need to know specifics about the motherboard/processor/peripherals. Booting linux from a SD card might help you identify those things. But I would not advise substituting a SD card for a drive, the card will eventually develop problems. I've tried this with another linux application that does repeater direct linking via network. (called DRIL used by the Armadillo Intertie in Texas) You can include specific motherboard/processor/drivers in a custom limey build. I have two "private" asterisk radio nodes running this (one is W2DB-L in NJ) Once the PC boots the limey images the whole thing runs from ramdisk and the "drive" is unmounted.. Pretty cool. I had to add drivers and tools to allow for RTL8187 wireless usb adapter. Took a while to figure all of it out, but it works like a champ. So, if you want a neat learning experience try limey. This is how most of the configurable external controllers work. Then once the final ID fires, the repeater is quite until activity again, then resumes its scripts, etc until no activity after its final ID time countdown. Very specifically it reads: ERROR[4275]: chan_echolink.c:2393 do_el_directory: Error in parsing header on server1.echolink.org So, looking in the code for chan_echolink.c at the specific line 2393 it looks like the information gets downloaded, then it performs some check on the information received and exits if there is an error. I have no idea what has changed to make my machine thrown an error... Is there someone good with asterisk and or echolink that can tell me what the error is looking for so I can start looking at what my system is doing? Or, has there been a recent change with the echolink directory servers that have somehow changed the way the data comes in? I can tell you that my echolink station registers and shows up in the directory, so most of the echolink channel is working. There is a repeater in the Carlisle/Harrisburg , PA area that uses 3 receivers and is also a private node and it works quite well. The sites are link with ubiquiti wireless gear and he has less than 5 ms pings and once in a while you can tell it is voting. My system uses different provides and my average ping is 40-60 milli seconds depending on the time of day and when I vote you may hear a syllable get delayed or dropped but it works very very well! Do you have multiple RF nodes connected to Asterisk, and ever wanted to 'flip' them? For example, you have a VHF and UHF node, and occasionally would like to put the VHF traffic on UHF and vice-versa? I've actually wanted to have this capability before, and it occurred to me tonight how to easily achieve this. Here are the DTMF commands for rpt.conf: 950=cmd,/home/kyle/astflip 0 ; unflip nodes - normal 951=cmd,/home/kyle/astflip 1 ; flipVHF and UHF nodes What needs to happen to completely 'flip' two nodes is incredibly simple, the more I thought about it. Here's a normal node stanza: [2211] rxchannel=SimpleUSB/usb2211 and here's a 'flipped' node stanza: [2211] rxchannel=SimpleUSB/usb2212 All I had to do was to automate the process! There are two copies of rpt.conf. One is the normal setup, and the other has the rxchannels flipped as above. Here is my script: #!/bin/bash # # Script to flip Allstar Nodes, by K0KN 7/2012 # # Usage = astflip [1] [0] 0=normal 1=flipped # ASTERISK=/etc/asterisk NORMAL=/etc/asterisk/rpt.normal FLIPPED=/etc/asterisk/rpt.flipped if [ "$1" == "" ] ; then echo "Missing Argument(s)" ; exit fi # Flip configs if [ $1 == 1 ] ; then cp "$FLIPPED" "$ASTERISK/rpt.conf" fi if [ $1 == 0 ] ; then cp "$NORMAL" "$ASTERISK/rpt.conf" fi # Restart Asterisk asterisk -rx "restart now" # done exit 0 fi From ismaelisuani at gmail.com Fri Jul 13 12:16:56 2012 From: ismaelisuani at gmail.com (Ismael Isuani) Date: Fri, 13 Jul 2012 09:16:56 -0300 Subject: [App_rpt-users] Autopatch with SIP Message-ID: hi, *rpt.conf* [1999] duplex=2 ... .. I have the following in my rpt.conf file: duplex=1 propagate_dtmf=yes With the above, we are unable to send / pass DTMF tones. Ken suggested that I try 'parrot mode' - I enabled that by adding the following to my functions stanza: 987=cop,55 ; Parrot once by command Now, when I send *987 123 (without unkeying) and on the output, I hear 3 clicks (corresponding to 1 2 3) - i.e., muted DTMF tones. Turned off, on the mother ship, access via the web transceiver to ALL my publicly linked nodes: 144/220/440/900/audio console/hub (I have a commercial radio station broadcast console hooked into a URI to enable me to run nets from a decent op position...complete with a blinking "On Air" light over the door to my shack...:) Hokey, I know...). Then...since I want to be able to get into my system from elsewhere ...just in case... 2. Left the access enabled on a node which is registered to another system which I take care of, but is not actually hooked up to a radio at this point (It's running the pseudo driver). Also pointed my Echolink config to that node number. So...I still have an entre' into the system, but, it's a) not full-time connected to my cluster (which is also connected to another hub) and b) changed the connect/disconnect *Xnodenumber sequence to make it more arcane. Voila! The Dain Bramaged drive-bys still can drive by...but, in essence, when the 'dummy" node is disconnected (which is most if not all of the time unless I need to come in via the wireline network)...don't even know they're there, nor is there any radio for them to key up, but, if I need to put up echolink during a net...I can connect that node up to enable access. I know that's not what it was formally intended for...but, there seems to be just so many annoying, inconsiderate operators out there these days. Must be the summer vacation...or the result of no-code licenses (***ducking*** and putting on the asbestos jockey shorts and cast iron cup...) More than one way to solve the problem. Was talking to a fellow system operator in the net I'm on...another option would be to somehow have a password access intercept that could be configured on the web transceiver...much like the old access codes we had to punch in back in the day for autopatch access on most machines...but that's another issue. This doesn't solve the issue of drive-bys on other nodes in our network (and I know my fellow ops in that net are on this list...), but, at least I'm not contributing to the excess noise in the linked network by exposing my systems full time. > Friends don't let Friends buy S*** from Clear/Clearwire. I'm wondering if this issue comes down to a syntax problem, etc? For example, I didn't see a [general] line in your simpleusb.conf. Also, make sure that usbradio.conf does not exist in /etc/asterisk. I figured I'd also post this to the group, in case anyone wanted to have a 'template' file for usbradio.conf or simpleusb.conf. As you know, I'm a big fan of SimpleUSB. It makes it possible for node owners to do more with a less powerful PC, provided that you use a COS line from the receiver, and don't use software-based PL squelch. Like running 3 or 4 RF nodes on a Pentium 3 PC! Note that I've made a couple of changes here, such as txmixa=voice and txmixb=no instead of having both at no. I'm thinking that the software will default both to voice or composite if mixa and mixb=no. I use this same setup on my nodes, and both audio channels combined result in a much too high audio level. I've seen cases where the USB fobs didn't discover correctly when switching from Usbradio to Simple (or vice-versa). I'd suggest trying them one at a time per the directions. Make sure to (W)rite the settings for each fob in radio-tune-menu (or simpleusb-tune-menu) to generate your TUNE configs. It doesn't seem to bother app_rpt if you keep the tune config files in /etc/asterisk for both simpleusb and usbradio. For example: simpleusb_tune_usb2211.conf usbradio_tune_usb2211.conf I've switched back and forth between Simple and Usbradio on a test machine several times. Just make sure that either usbradio.conf OR simpleusb.conf exist in /etc/asterisk, but never both. 73 and GL.
