Try cd /var/log/asterisk/
[root at asl2063 ~]# cd /var/log/asterisk/

[root at asl2063 ~]# ls
cdr-csv/     event_log.2  messages.1   queue_log    queue_log.3
event_log    event_log.3  messages.2   queue_log.1
event_log.1  messages     messages.3   queue_log.2

[root at asl2063 ~]# cat "log" or tail "log"

[root at asl2063 ~]# cat messages
