To close the loop on this - I installed a new PCI based USB card into the box and connected the fobs to it - booted up - Voila!
So the onboard USB ports seem to be damaged somehow!
LEDs are flashing away, life is good once again, snow is still falling in Toronto!
Cheers,
Ramesh.

Subject: [App_rpt-users] usb fobs lights out....
Hi All;
I noticed last night that my app_rpt box with 3 fobs (the LEDs on which
usually flash away), all had lights out yesterday.
Interestingly, when I do an 'lsusb' - I don't see them:
[root at ve3rsd-ast ~]# lsusb
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
[root at ve3rsd-ast ~]#
The USB controllers seem to be there:
[root at ve3rsd-ast ~]# lspci | grep USB
00:1d.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation NM10/ICH7 Family USB UHCI
Controller #1 (rev 01)
00:1d.1 USB controller: Intel Corporation NM10/ICH7 Family USB UHCI

Controller #4 (rev 01)
00:1d.7 USB controller: Intel Corporation NM10/ICH7 Family USB2 EHCI

dmesg lists them too...
[root at ve3rsd-ast ~]# dmesg | grep USB

I recall having an issue like this on my D-STAR box some time ago... a
yum update fixed it (I think it was an issue with udev.... not sure) - I
have done a 'yum update' on this box and I'm no further ahead.
Environment specifics:
[root at ve3rsd-ast ~]# cat /etc/*release*
cat: /etc/lsb-release.d: Is a directory
CentOS release 5.9 (Final)
[root at ve3rsd-ast ~]#
[root at ve3rsd-ast ~]# uname -r
2.6.18-308.8.2.el5
Anyone have any ideas?
Thx,
Ramesh.
