[App_rpt-users] Registration server down?

Thanks everyone for your input and thoughts.

To answer a few questions, my WAN side is not static.. But it does not change often. Maybe once of month if that.

The node is not static, but it is assigned an IP via DHCP by the router 192.168.0.2.

Actiontech router

Model:

Firmware Version:

Gateway MAC Address:

WAN IP Address:

Subnet Mask:

Gateway IP Address:

DNS Address #1:

DNS Address #2:

The node is assigned a rule for UDP 4569 which is based on MAC address, so I never have to worry about an internal IP reassignment causing an issue.

However that said, all along I can IAXRPT into it and use ZOIPER to communicate with it, so I know it is routing just fine.

Also there is only one other device on the router and it is static, so I know it can’t be duplicate issue.. The node is at a location that has no other access possible to it, it is stand alone DSL 8MBPS dedicated to the node with a camera to monitor the premise as needed.

Traceroutes prove to be ok as well to the registration server, but for some strange reason Jim would never see any instance of my IP address in his logs.

In speaking with Steve Henke, W9SH, he poked around and issued a command “amportal kill" in order to check port forwarding and suddenly the node registered only after an "amportal start".

So it is mystery on why this “fixed” it.. Or did it? We shall see in a few weeks.

Regardless, it is up for now and I sincerely appreciate everyone that chimed in and helped with the effort.. I just wish I really knew what fixed it.. Perhaps once day :)

Are you using a static IP in your app_rpt machine ?

What type of internet do you have FIOS/Cable modem/DSL ?

What "model" router are you using?

Can you be sure that your cable/dsl modem does not have a router with a firewall blocking the voip ports ?

(you might directly talk with it and look around)

Also, if you are using a static IP, is it outside of the DHCP range of router (may have a dup ip from a other device... it happens and will until the other device is reset while the static address is active. could be a smartphone, laptop, game controller or ip-phone or neighbors device etc)

The more facts we have the easier to find.

Thanks Mike. Yup already did that. Something else is wrong.

I would look for a type error in your registration lines in rpt.conf

then a quick look at port forwarding in your router to be sure the voip port is going to the ip of app_rpt machine.

Just my thinking... hope you find it.

Thanks Tim, I thought of that early one, but I am able to ping the reg
server, so I assumed that was not the issue. Agree?

Sometimes registration won't happen because there is no DNS. This is very
common on a new ACID install.

Add a name server to /etc/resolv.conf for example:
nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 8.8.4.4
