Bryan,

 Sorry you feel that passing tone over rf is anoying to you. Some of us who 
have equipment that uses touch tone to control an HF radio requires this 
function.

 If you have to worry about disclosure of codes, well, that's another can of 
worms I dont want to open. I knew the idea would not appeal to everyone, and 
a few would find ways to put down the idea, but I guess that is what ham 
radio is about. Can't make everyone happy.

i don't get why people would want to pass DTMF over the output of the 
repeater.  besides being anoying, it exposes your control sequence to 
disclosure (record, playback) and is generally considered obnoxious.

here's an idea: buy a receiver board from hamtronics or bash an old mobile 
to get discriminator out to a URI, split the receive antenna line at the 
site, set up a receive node on some oddball non-interfering frequency, and 
code what you want into scripts and/or commands in rpt.conf.  set your 
mobile/ht to same oddball frequency, and pound away on the keypad to your 
heart's content without blowing the speakers out of the radios that may be 
tuned to your repeater output and turning folks off to using said mschine.

it's called 'out-of-band' control.

It has been a bit of a standard with other controllers that to pass dtmf 
through, you just needed to start with a "#" and later digits would pass.
Any chance we could have that functionality?

Yes I have. It does not support the radio I want to use. You would think
passing tones via RF would be an easy thing to do.

App_rpt supports some HF radios. http://ohnosec.org/drupal/node/191 Have you
looked into doing it that way?
