Roger,

Everyone has the capability to compile!

I think you are talking about the PC Debian compile? I believe the ISO would exceed DVD size. I guess you could really trim it down but setting up a system for someone else to use is not a trivial task.

If anyone really wants to run on Debian I have some notes on setting it up from scratch but you still need to have a more than basic understanding of Linux and Debian in particular. You would learn a lot doing this though. Patience and persistence are required! For those who want to try it here is the quick list:

1. Have a PC and drive you can dedicate
2. Download the Debian net installation CD (you can do this in windows)
3. Boot on the CD and install Debian (if gets the rest of the stuff via the Internet)
4. Bring up Debian and configure the system for your tastes - DHCP/static, ssh port, etc.
5. Download the kernel header files and other dependencies needed for compiling
6. Get DAHDI complete source and compile and install
7. Get asterisk/allstar source and compile and install
8. Copy over or create and configure the /etc/asterisk configuration files
Note that in steps 6 and 7 you will without doubt get errors due to the lack of required dependencies or files in the wrong place. You need to correct the problem and start the compile over. 99.99% of errors you will get are correctable with patience.

I would be glad to answer any questions anyone might have along the way.
