CentOS 5.2 is seriously out-dated with well known exploits. CentOS 7 just
came out, otherwise you have v6.5.

Does ACID contain its own kernel? I am still waiting for my RTCM to arrive
in the mail and haven't installed the OS yet.

Uhm... ACID comes (or, did when *I* set my node up) on CentOS 5.x, as
default. Why not use that, instead of building from scratch?
