We currently have 18 or so RTCM’s in our network all doing voting. Some have been going for years without issues/reboots. Yes you will need one at your main site with the server. Feed it discriminator audio and PL logic from the RX set the rx levels so they are nulled on the LED’s like the manual says. Then adjust for input/output on the transmitter. We feed our transmitters right to the exciter and let the server to the PL generation. With all the RX’s aligned properly like the manual says you can not tell what RX is currently active unless you are watching the server. Even in mid word...
Currently running a 4 site UHF setup, 3 Site VHF and 5 Site VHF setup. We have portable rtcm’s that tie into the different repeaters as well for temporary remote’s that use 4g or microwave back. Just sent one in the dayton portable repeater rather then using the Beagleboard-XM/LOX we normally use. Most of our units are on private microwave links but the 5 site VHF repeater has a comcast cable modem to it at the moment and a static IP address’s so the server lives there for that one. Using a quad core 2.4ghz server for the 4 site UHF as it’s been running for over 2 years now that way and the 3 site VHF is using a beagleboneblack for the server.
I am waiting to hear back on a grant were we may be purchasing another 18 for a project we love them so much.
