[App_rpt-users] AllStar interface and +

The short answer to your Baofeng question is but a question itself
since I'm not familiar with it...

If it will work on any repeater, it will work. But one would need to
question the stability and sensitivity of those products for use in a
repeater.

As you are new, I thought I might direct you to some terminology so
you might ask the right questions the right way to get a accurate
answer.
And I'm not sure why this is not explained to newbies on any of the
websites, perhaps it is and I have not seen it.

Allstar is a network of repeater systems connected by software called
app_prt which is a open source software riding on top of asterisk
which is also a open source software of a VOIP telephone PBX.

All of these software installations ride on top of various versions of
the linux operating system.

It is the app_rpt software that has interface to your radios.
When you connect to the network, you are basically making a VOIP call
to other stations via the asterisk PBX.
So your first start (in my opinion) is to get a working model of the
computer with software in operation, then worry about how to interface
the radios.
You have a lot to learn about this and lucky for you, many have worked
hard to make it easier to get it started.
But it does require some knowledge and will to do from many areas.

For a install on a RPi, Here is some reading and tutorials

http://docs.allstarlink.org/drupal/node/170

http://www.qsl.net/w2ymm/dial_howto.html

http://docs.allstarlink.org/drupal/node/75

There is always more than one way to skin a cat. Keep that in mind
throughout.

This can be a frustrating adventure depending on your knowledge in
computers, the linux OS and radio/repeaters.

Please know that this project is completed entirely by volunteers who
do it for the fun of it, donating hundreds if not thousands of hours
to it.
And there is always more to be done.

Perhaps one of the Pi users can chime in with better set of
instruction/introductions, I use the ACID version...   Good luck
