You would mount the eeprom in the connector of each radio cable and store the settings for that radio. Then when you switched cables the settings would follow along with it. If you are just using one radio you would not need the eeprom and even if you were using more than one radio being without it it would just mean you would have to run through the settings again when you changed radios. Without the eeprom level settings are stored in a configuration file on the computer when you run the level setting utility.
