Sorry gang for not getting back sooner but what I did find is that I could not ping anything except for local ip address’s with my router as the dns server

So I changed it to Google’s quad 8’s and I was able to ping things on the internet but was still not able to connect to anything.

But today, I decided just to check because sometimes it takes time for dns records to populate and low-and-behold, I was able to connect to nodes now.

What was funny is, after the online nodes portal was re-instated, I was showing in the online nodes list but couldn’t go anywhere.

Oh well, its working now.

Thanks all
Giving this some more thought... (what was I thinking... or not)

I guess I skipped over the fact you may not have a internet connection at all.

Probably the first check anyway. Try something from a command line first to check it.

Reboot router/computer and check again / check dns at node.
If nothing has changed with your config than adjusting something is the wrong solution.
The chances of something having gone wrong in memory is a bit higher in a rf environment and a reboot often will flush that out. If it does, you need to look at bad memory and/or rf getting on your wiring.
Yes its been some time since I’ve monitored the emails because I’ve had way too many to try to read through them but….

I have a question to probably a common problem and easy fix.

I am using the Dial distro of allstar which has been working great up to some point.

So today I decided to fire up the old HT and dial up a node for some traffic to listen to.

Connection failed is what I’m getting.

No matter what node I try to dial up I get, Connection failed.

All of my config files look ok and I have not done any changes to either my allstar node or my port forwarding on my router.

Where might I start to find and resolve my issue.

Cheers to all...

Some time ago, there were a few folks who shared a directory on their
web server to update voice node ID's as a way to exchange between us,
for those that recorded a voice id for there node identifier.

( i.e. "the w a n hub" for node 2135 or "U K HUB" for 27066 )

Some of you know exactly what I'm speaking to while others will be
completely lost, I understand.

But while I was reviewing my scripts in doing a weekly update of new
nodes from the server I had, I found what I was using no longer existed
and probably has not for some time. I find them attractive if they are
done right. Keeping the time to announce shorter while giving more
precise info about node location/band.

...

So my question is, is anyone doing such a think now, and if so,
who/where/details.

And if there is more than one, perhaps updating that share between them
weekly would be in order to propagate changes so that we are not all
relying on just one in the event something happens. I have security
issues from time to time as I'm sure others do, so 3 of them make sense
to me.

I have a interest in keeping this going so if they are all gone, I'm
willing to open a directory on one of my VPS servers for that, and/or
exchange with others so it is well stored and propagated.

All in all, we probably should issue a standard script for those that
want to do such a thing (willing to share my sample). But for now, let's
see where we are on this. Perhaps I'm just out of date with changes that
have been going on.

Any info ? I'm sure it would enlighten the group as well as myself.

Thanks,

Well, I know that some of you that have problems with dns get around
them by using google dns BUT...

I think you need to take a good look at your network config in your
server and perhaps router. But I think your server will be your likely
target. But it could be both. In short I would say verify your router
first and scub-out your server 'net config' very well.

If everything is right, it should work right away after a reboot, at
least for outbound connects..

But I'm glad to hear it's working for you.
No need, the system will rsync node announcements about once per day from the
main reg server.

The main issue with this was finding someone willing to review the files and
confirm they work. I've done this for people when asked, but I'm not going to
edit or convert files. I can't tell you the number of times I've been sent a
30 second wav file and people expected it to work. I'd love an automated
process, but there's not really a good way to do it.

Check out node 40821 announcement for a good example (tooting my own horn),
but it should be short (7-10s), have the node number and be normalized with
clear audio. I know mine took some time in audacity to get just right.

Would you be willing to help out with being the reviewer of these?
Yeah I thought about that also. It probably has already cleared so I will put my dns info in the server back to my router and see what happens.
Well, I know that some of you that have problems with dns get around them by using google dns BUT...

I think you need to take a good look at your network config in your server and perhaps router. But I think your server will be your likely target. But it could be both. In short I would say verify your router first and scub-out your server 'net config' very
well.

If everything is right, it should work right away after a reboot, at least for outbound connects..

But I'm glad to hear it's working for you.

But other possibilities exist.

Very good.

Well, I'm still using ACID on 2 servers so, I wasn't aware.

But does not help me at this point unless you might just state the
server location of the files, I can write my own scripts for retrieving
them. Just gotta know where they are.

Yes, I fully understand about validity, and the time it al takes away
from us for it. A long time ago, a few of us had a directory of known
good files, and that directory was read only and one other directory for
write/uploads so not to corrupt the good files until reviewed.

thanks for the info Bryan,
Well you were right Mike, about possibly an issue with the router.

It has a dns relay function that was turned off. I forgot that I had reset my router about a month ago and that function is default off.

My allstar server has a static ip so that’s why it wouldn’t resolve anything past the router itself.

Almost everything in my house uses the dhcp function so that’s why I didn’t see the issue because dhcp tells the computers everything they need to know.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I am now back to my routers ip address in my resolv.conf file.

Can someone on the group lent me a hand.

I installed the new ASL v 1.0.1 on a RasPi 3 and on a x86 machine. Everything installed fine but on both nodes I cannot get then to connect to any particular external node or HUB.

I did run the System Diagnotics Menu from A to I and everything is been reported to be working without any problem.

My network is a AT&T Home Base 4G LTE wireless router. No port forwarding allowed.

BTW.. a Debian DIAL version on RasPi connect and works ok on this network.

Do not know if I an missing something else to check.
