[FRC] Updates after the meeting

I think the needed improvement in FRC is to respond to applications or request in a timely manner. They have the technical staff that can determine coordinating issues. Not sure why a committee would be needed for obvious. So many times in past heard some going to FRC for repeater pair and maybe hear back in 6 months, most of the time they say none available.

But is good to see FRC trying to address some issues by having committee look into things although I have had few issues. FRC has ask for suggestions in past for coordination issues like the narrow banding of 2m and changing channel spacing. I commented on the channel spacing noting their method would not work, make 146/147 7.5kHz ch spacing. few FM rigs will do 7.5 kHz channels. Also seems FRC does not realize just turning down deviation does not properly narrow band a repeater. Not heard much about this lately.

If Bryan did not drop the issue why have we not heard from him??? But maybe he is working with committee before commenting.

Ron, N9EE,BSEE, is incorrect. Bryan did not see it "working well" and drop it.

A series of informal conversations were held before the board meeting. the FRC agreed to the formation of a "Process Development Committee", which they formed during the business meeting. I am the chair of the committee. There will be a charter statement soon, but basically the purpose of the committee is to review FRC processes as needed and solicit public input on how to improve them. this input will be used to draft recommended changes to given processes, which will then be voted on by the full FRC board. There are 4 board members on the PDC and 4 non-board members. A web forum site has been developed to allow hams to make suggestions and discuss in a format open to everyone. The site will be available as soon as the PDC completes review of it. I and others feel this is a big step in moving into a more transparent FRC where everyone can be heard , not just those few that can make it to a fest a few times a year.

Yes, we had all this heated discussion about FRC and after Melbourne nothing other than would get back to us.

I suspect Bryan saw FRC does work well and dropped it.

Sad news: just heard the president of FRC, Ray Kassis, is SK.

Bryan, what happened to your followup email summarizing what happened in Melbourne?
