Here's Ron's response to Bryan's post of the same subject on the TARC
reflector:
Here couple spec anal test of my UV5R on high power, one on 2m/VHF and
the other at 448 MHz/UHF.
The 2nd harmonics are over 40 db down.
I think in the YouTube video the spec anal was being over loaded, a
common mistake made when testing a device. To check this one should
attenuate the signal to see if the ratio of the fundamental to harmonic
levels change. If after putting in 10 db attenuation and the
fundamental reduces by 10db, but the harmonic say by 30 db this would
indicate overloading the spec anal front end and the harmonics are
generated inside the spec anal.
We have seen the test the ARRL has done on these Chinese radios and the
results aint all that good. I am sure yur UV5R would show different
results, some better, some not better. What can we expect from a $30 HT, hi.
