Hey Kan, Sorry if my last email was a little hard. Yep I under stand that you want the S.A.M.E. alert to trigger a different courtesy tone. I don't write the code for APP_RPT but lets look at what you and others would want for the S.A.M.E. alert.

When the S.A.M.E. alert is triggered

1) Record the alert so it can be played back by a dial plan or connect to a Rx radio with updated info.
2) Connect to a node and Tx the audio alert (maybe use a different PL code)
3) Text to speech for the coded message.
4) Program more then one S.A.M.E. alert code
5) Allow admins to configure S.A.M.E. alert code to connect to different nodes.
6) Change courtesy tones.
7) Play coded message any 1-10 minutes. (TORNADO)
10) Dial plan to reset S.A.M.E. alert.

May guess is that if you have a S.A.M.E. alert radio and URI I would try to fine the COS or COR and just play with that first. I would think that you should be able to find a S.A.M.E. alert radio that has output for COS or COR and the TEXT data. If you have that I think you could make it very simple for the code writers.

 … but more than that, I would like the repeater courtesy tone, or tail message, to change when an alert is active.  And it should state what the problem is: ‘severe thunderstorm warning’ or ‘tornado watch’ and so forth.

 

This is important because the NWS just triggers the alarm once and leaves it up for several hours. If you missed the initial message, you are out of luck. And I don’t want to listen to the weather 24/7 – only to be advised when something is about to hit. 

 

There was  another machine around here with an RLC controller and one of those $500 CAT weather radios that did exactly this. Asterisk should be smart enough to do the same. It is always looking for DTMF digits, it should be able to find SAME codes …

Yes Ken I understand how S.A.M.E. works, but don't see how a wide area repeater would care. I was thinking of using S.A.M.E. on my repeater and found that I get the same S.A.M.E. info for all of the San Diego county area. Not just one little area. So playing around with a NWR radio hooked up to a URI did work, I couldn't find any real use for it. If you going to leave your Ham radio on next to your bed to listen to your repeater with the weather alert you might as well use a S.A.M.E. radio.

Would it be easyer to use NWR then S.A.M.E. NWR uses 1050hz tone. Or buy a cheap S.A.M.E. radio and find a the cos or cor.
