If you're still using it, be aware that Apple has deprecated it and no longer supports (or will fix vulnerabilities) QT on the Window$ platform.

Download Audacity (free, so should appeal to hams...Google is your friend to find it) and install the Lame encoder (instructions on where to find it are in the Audacity dox...) to handle your mp3 needs.  No cost, except for disk space, and you just might find other uses for it.
