The Doug Hall RBI-1 is a serial device but it is not a rs232 device. It's clock timings can not be generated by any other means (at this time by app_rpt). Perhaps you could spoof out a few serial lines and add some hardware but would be a bunch of work to incorporate in the source code as it is. Perhaps as a external set using scripting ?I found it easier to use a ATOM PC board that had the parallel port.Just a note, I do not think that a USB to parallel converter will work for this either. The usb converters don't seem to support the pin punching in linux. I would be happy to hear if someone gets that to work though.If You want to develop a new method, I'm sure there are a lot of folks that have no parallel ports that would send you flowers for your work !Sorry, poor humor, but it's just not a reasonable thing considering the alternatives. The parallel port is the easiest way to generate the timings required to send data to it.
