I use a solid state drive on my repeater system so far we have only had one fail and it failed when the temperatures where right around -12 on the cpu core temps.. We think that possibly a shell script had cause our issue however we were able to reformat the drive and put it back into service with no issues now for 2 years with out protection of the elements.. 

Just my thoughts on solid state drives.. We use them  because of low power consumption and because their is no moving parts in them to freeze up during extreme operating temperature conditions..

If by SSD you mean compact flash, then, yes, I have had issues with those. They are convenient for being basically IDE, but, they have a limited write cycle and can get trashed up. I've had them also suddenly have all sort of I/O issues, but re-seating them returns them to normal. Regarding modern SSDs, I haven't had a failure, but there are some instances where you can grind their lifespan away with either bad firmware, or potentially a poor choice of application for them. It would be a feat to accomplish that with asterisk and app_rpt I would thing.
