For simplicity and cost, you should only look for a PCI printer port card and hijack the lines internally or the built in port externally "if I understand what you are doing".
I'v been using the PP for repeater control lines since '95 in a DOS box. I just use a opto-coupled transistor converter board used in CNC machines to protect the computer from lightning damage (and a mistaken short).
