Ubuntu dropped oss sound support several years ago. As an experiment I recompile the kernel with it turned back on and it worked but in general Ubuntu is not a good choice for the current Acid code because of this.  Acid usb audio will not work without oss support. Debian would be a better choice and Allstar works well there. In fact I have a Debian system here running the current Acid release. You do need to use Dahdi with patches.

Subject: [App_rpt-users] Allstar on Ubuntu 12.04

I remember reading a post about someone getting Allstar to run on Ubuntu 12.04. I am having issues compiling zaptel. Linux kernel v3 does not have <linux/autoconf.h> looks like something changed in the headers between v2 and v3 kernel... Any clues or ideas?
