The effort required would depend on the usb audio chipset in the headset and if any gpio was wired. 

It's much less effort to accomplish what you're trying to do using the DV Switch Android app. 

Could use the same headset with a usb on the go adapter or a Bluetooth headset. This is a proven approach.
