Thanks Loren, I tried this method you suggested but the thumb drive does not show up as a bootable device now, I'm thinking it may be because the PC I'm installing on uses EUFI, not a bios.  I'll see if there is a comparability mode but I don't think so.

I no longer use Windows at all I use Xubuntu Studio 14.04 LTS Windows kinda made me a little mad so i made the switch..

I hope some of this helps you out with the install if not let me know it could be the iso imagine you have might be corrupt i dont like to think of that but it is possible..

  1. Insert the USB device and then open Disk Utility (in 10.10 and older, System -> Administration -> Disk Utility).
  2. Select the USB device from the list in the left of the program and detect where it was mounted: /dev/sd[1 letter][optionally 1 number]. For example, /dev/sdc or /dev/sdc1.

  3. Make sure the USB device is unmounted (not safely removed, but unmounted) If it is mounted you can unmount it:

    sudo umount /dev/sd[1 letter][optionally 1 number]

  4. Assuming the .iso file is in your home folder, open the terminal and write:

    sudo dd bs=4M if=[ur .iso] of=/dev/sd[that 1 letter]

    Example:

    sudo dd bs=4M if=windows7.iso of=/dev/sdc

And wait for it to finish. (The "bs=4M" - bit is optional, just makes it faster.)

Generally all my installations I use a usb stick.. However I use Linux based computer with a terminal or command prompt as the windows users would say

Thanks for the reply Loren.  The same iso file installs without error when installed on a new VM.  Have you had success with a USB thumb drive install?  Perhaps Acid install from USB is not supported.

I also burned the ISO to a CD and booted from a USB CD ROM drive but it also fails to "download" the kickstart - exact experience as USB key.  Have tried all three of the USB ports on this PC.  Have also tried two different USB sticks.
