Why not try the recommended option (Bryan Boyle et al) to add a dedicated USB board instead of using the built in ports since the internal bus / hub configuration seems suspect (many opinions)

StarTech PCIUSB7 7 Port PCI USB Card Adapter - PCI, USB

$14.  @ Tiger Direct

You are going to spend 10x that in time and effort trying to build a workaround or trying to patch the configuration (IRQs etc) to make the built ins work.

Time is money.

There is a reason that some people prefer the parallel port or the Quad PCI Card.

I use usb at my home node, but on the mountain I have a Quad PCI Radio card. I have not had a problem with it.

Well, it happened again, this morning.
Both URI's on same usb buss, but this time it was the UHF repeater URI that failed.  Previously, it was the vhf simplex node that was 'sensitive'.

Shutting down and restarting asstorisk doesn't do it, but

does.
