The -V flag is for "verbosity" and not "version". If you want your version number, take a look around line number 22 in the file:

/usr/src/astsrc/asterisk/apps/app_rpt.c

and you should see something like:

 *  version 0.320 10/02/2013

When I run –V it just returns Asterisk so I can’t give you the version number.
