I'm not sure what you mean by " I can connect [???] to the system and that is it. My radio link
is up and fully functional[???]." It does sound like you have downloaded and followed the instructions to install
DIAL from allstarlink.org, and now want to manage your node from a computer. But
they you say, " ... getting someone to write
a micro-SD chip for me to just plug and play." Which sounds like you have
not installed DIAL. Once the software is loaded up on the RPi, then gains need
to be set for the attached radio. If you are using simpleusb (radio generates
the PL function and COR) then follow the instructions at http://docs.allstarlink.org/drupal/node/68.
If you are using usbradio (uses digital signal processing) to interpret and
generate CTCSS (PL), then see http://docs.allstarlink.org/drupal/node/69
After installation, there are a couple of
way to manage the server and operate the node(s). First is to use ssh (remote
login function) to the app_rpt server via a program like Putty.exe (Windows). If
DIAL is installed, I suspect you may have used this to load and install the
DIAL software. The second way is to use iaxrpt (Windows), which allows you to
listen to the node, and send DTMF commands via your keyboard. See http://docs.allstarlink.org/drupal/node/132

Hi.
I am not one
to cry “uncle” but even with help from two professional computer
men we have not been able to get AllStar to work here.
I can
connect to the system and that is it. My radio link is up and fully
functional. 438.1 MHz & 100 Hz. Tone.
Should I be
seeing a screen with a “console” like EchoLink or IRLP? I am new to
Linux also.
I have a
Raspberry Pi-3 and a URIx interface.
What would
be involved in getting someone to write a micro-SD chip for me to just plug and
play? Obviously the chip will be supplied. The Wi-Fi would be nice but not
necessary. I think if I could once get on the learning curve may not be quite
as steep.
I have been
a ham since 1957 and have an extra license and many years as a broadcast
engineer (had First ‘Phone with radar endorsement) – but – by
jingo – this has me bewildered and buffaloed!
