Hi Jim, Yes that is correct. Stopping and starting asterisk does not reconnect the URI.
Although Centos reports its still connected.

Here is the query for the usb devices in the failed state:

Do you think it might be a centos thing?

When it does fail, Asterisk and/ or App_Rpt doesn't seem to complain.

Tried setting the debug to 7 but never got any info.
