I never hear myself 'after I unkey' if using iaxrpt on a dahdi
node. Including on a Pi3
But using one of the radio nodes (with a radio) that use simpleusb on the same server does create that effect.
Perhaps it is not a proper observation for compare since a direct iax stream is not exactly the same handling/buffering.

The variable audio delay happens with RTCM's too.
Are you running full duplex DAHDI to a device some how? I don't understand how you know that this never happens with the DAHDI driver.

Nodes with dahdi driver are never a issue on the same server.
Could be some interference with cpu time-slice etc ?

It seems to correspond to me when I did switch to simpleusb this year so I would say try it with usbradio if you have the additional headroom.
Perhaps I will switch back as well. It's worth noting and trying.
