So, OK. First, are you sure that 10.0.1.1 is the address assigned to your node computer and not to the Airport router? Usually, the address at then eginning of a block like that is the router. So you’re likely trig to ssh to the wrong place. Do you have direct access to the node computer, i.e. is there a keyboard and monitor on it? If so, you should be able to find your correct internal IP by typing ifconfig eth0

I convert or create the wav file top 8000 just as you do. Instead of worrying much about ULAW files I just convert it to a gsm file.

 

To convert a 16000 or 8000 Hz wav to gsm. (I think it will work with both)

Use the command line, not the CLI.

Go to the directory where your newly copied wav file is located.

Type in the following command to change to that directory.

The below example is assuming you create a folder named “custom”.

 

cd /var/lib/asterisk/sounds/custom

 

Your prompt should look similar to this. w0fcm is my server name.

[root@w0fcm custom]#

 

Input the following command substituting your wav file name and your new gsm file name.

Here I used the name example.wav and example.gsm.

sox example.wav -r 8000 example.gsm

 

Delete the wav file and any ulaw or sln files with the same prefix in the folder you are working with.

 

If you want to play a file locally input the following command.

Note: 29503 is the node number I am playing it on.

 

/usr/sbin/asterisk -rx "rpt localplay 29503 custom/example"

 

If you want to play a sound file globally input the following command.

/usr/sbin/asterisk -rx "rpt playback 29503 custom/example"

 

To replace a tone with a sound file just remove or comment out the codes and replace it with a folder and file prefix. Below are three examples of tones/sounds I use for remotetx.

I did not restart the sshd after I changed port 222 to 22. I did reboot the computer, but Maybe that's not enough. So just run "/etc/rc3.d/S55sshd restart"?

I got really confused with all of those random numbers under telemetry section, but I guess they are all frequencies for the Courtesy tone.

On audacity, I just did file > export then I chose other uncompressed format and did Microsoft wav, ULAW. I also made sure the project rate was at 8000. 

When I get home, I will check the files, and test the telephone portal.

Courtesy tones, have to look under the [Telemetry] section

and change the freq/numbers there -

in /etc/asterisk/rpt.conf

 

do you have the line in rpt.conf?

We are using an apple airport router, which states the LAN address of the Ethernet port is 10.0.1.1. I typed ssh root@10.0.1.1, and I got a connection refused.

I was able to reverse SSH back to my macintosh using ssh username@computersLANip from ACID, but when I tried to SSH back to acid, it would not work. Just Connection Refused.
 

After I login on ACID it says Root@Skylersnode, my node, and I also gave ssh root@<node number> and ssh skylersnode@local IP a try, but still no success.

 

Are there any suggestions on getting this to work?

 

Second question: Courtesy tones,

 

I just figured out how to create a ULAW on audacity, and mount a flash drive on the command, and I am wondering if I can change the courtesy tones or any other audio file. Like the "I OWN COMMAND" annoying thing.  Where would the courtesy tones be located, and under what file name?

 

Third question: why it wont work on the web transceiver

When I dial in the node on the web transceiver, nothing happens, and when I hit the connect button, it does not do anything. Is there any way to get it to work, or will the web transceiver not work with my node. I would think it should work, because I have almost the same setup as Willem's node, 29571 ,on saddle back mountain.

Last Question: Won't connect to 28298 or 28299

This node is part of the FUN system here in Colorado, and I tried dialing 28298, which belongs to Jeff KØJSC, but I heard nothing, not even the change in courtesy tone.  He has no idea why my node will not connect up, but it is weird because it won't even show up on the web transceiver.
