If you compile 32 bit code on a 64 bit machine don't you end up with 48 bit binaries?

You'll get 64 bit code of the forked version it it compiles without errors. It may work or it may not work I don't know. You would be on your own and we would not be able to support such a build as it is outside of the scope of the project.
