I started thread and after doing some research maybe someone could respond off list. I would like to have autopatch on my repeater. I've now realized Google voice is going away. So two fold if I'm already going to pay for SIP service on my repeater why not be able to have home phone service too. I should be able to cobble something together? So my question to the list is what do people suggest I do? I was looking at vitality, I have an obiha at home that is currently setup with Google voice. So I figured I could reconfigure the obiha but what should I do for my repeater.

I've got this: name <node number> Description <any text that describes node> Now here is where I'm lost, or perhaps just naive. Host <got me here> Username <and here> Can this be done through Allstarlink, or does one need to have their own Asterisk host, with account and user name? iaxrpt needs to be setup in both iax.conf and extensions.conf in your Allstar cnfiguration. Then in your windows iaxrpt accounts. Here is my setup... In iax.conf stanza for iaxrpt (set the password) - [iaxrpt] user=iaxrpt type=user context=radio-iaxrpt auth=md5 secret=xxxxxxx ; *** Important! Change this!!! host=dynamic disallow=all allow=ulaw allow=gsm transfer=no and my extensions.conf stanza - [radio-iaxrpt] exten=27225,1,Rpt,27225|X exten=29014,1,Rpt,29014|X exten=29015,1,Rpt,29015|X I have three nodes so there are extensions for each. And my iaxrpt accounts based on the above - Account name: node number Description: I leave blank. Put anything you want. Host: the IP address or domain name of your Allstar system Username: iaxrpt Password: the password you assigned in iax.conf I select duplex and in codecs I prefer ulaw and allow gsm and ulaw. I setup additional accounts for the other nodes just changing the node number in the account. You can only run one iaxrpt application at a time in windows but you can switch back and forth freely between your nodes. The host setting is the local IP address of your Allstar system in your own lan if your are using this locally. If you are using it remotely out on the Internet then it has to be your public IP or domain name. You also need port 4569 forwarded to you Allstar computer. Hope that helps. I use voip.ms for my home phone service. I have been using Asterisk as my PBX for over 10 years. I have two homes and I use sip to the second home which is just another extension. voip.ms has servers throughout the country and for me 20ms or less rtt's. I have used sip to them but recently switched to iax and it seems to work better and faster but that might be my imagination since both are fast. voip.ms is a pay as you go provider with different plans but basically 1 cent/minute calls to US and Canada. I charge it up with $25 and it lasts me 2-3 months or more. I have my Asterisk Allstar and Asterisk pbx connected by iax. They reside on two different computers. I can bring up the patch from Allstar and dial any extension or number as I can on the pbx server. I guess I am not really clear on why one would need autopatch to make phone calls in this day and age. Don't we all have cell phones? Maybe for emergencies or possibly in some areas where cell coverage is sparse or non-existent. For me it is a toy and something to play with. I rarely if ever use it but nice to know it works. I haven't heard an autopatch being used on a repeater in years. Well I have had autopatch just for that reason, here in Hurricane Alley, having it for emergency use after a hurricane was a blessing when Wilma hit us. So for that I say it would be a good idea. As for a provider, I would recommend you subscribe to Jim's $5 a month service, as this will help support the Allstar project, and if you are using ACID, it is a seamless installation from the portal. Good point but the connection is only as reliable as the source so if it is a widespread failure it is likely the repeater or wherever the phone service comes from will be down also. That's why we have radio! Well I figured since the repeater is located at a mobile switch center, any outage (if any) will be quickly restored since the building is a very high priority. Luckily, the DSL is a direct hop to the central office and all underground.
