Steve, That's because the BF-888 and similar models do not have those exact connection points; most uses of those radios don't require the ability to disable the built in bandpass filters and preemphasis or deemphasis, which is actually handled entirely inside the radio firmware. I'm not certain exactly what the OP is wanting to do beyond setting up the two different modes on the same hardware, but if there is a desire to bridge between them, I do know how to accomplish that part. Your best bet is some old motorola surplus. The GM300, Maxtrac, SM50, CDM750's are great for link nodes or repeaters. You can find them on ebay cheap. I'm sure they'll have a much better duty cycle than the 888 also. All the pins you need to interface to your node are on the 16 pin accessory connector on the back. Hi, I agree that surplus Motorola hardware is an excellent way to go, except from a TX duty cycle standpoint. I've built a couple portable repeaters using a pair of 888 radios now and they run very high duty cycle with no issues at all--not even needing any forced air cooling. The chief downside to the 888 radios is synthesizer noise, and they are NOISY! So, that is one major limitation is building a high-performance repeater.
