:) it's OK...IRLP is dying out slowly, Dave's cash register is not ringing much these days.... On Wed, Sep 3, 2014 at 9:55 AM, Bryan Fields <Bryan@bryanfields.net> wrote:

at least IRLP -sounds- (or could, anyway) a lot better than EchoClunk.

Could being the operative word. Considering lots of people have no bloody idea what good audio sounds like, how to set levels ("What do you mean, I shouldn't bounce the VU meter indicator off the right hand stop?") let alone how limiting, compression, pre/de-emphasis, average modulation level, modulation indices, etc all interact...and then throw in the pee-poor codec, hacked together applications, and variable internet connectivity... All you have to do is listen to the pedantic and tiring discussion over audio quality on the trbo list and whether or not to use AGC, setting levels using an ephemeral LED VU meter with a webcam on it...and you'd quickly 1) tire of the discussion, and 2) give thanks to whatever deity (or not) that Allstar is as good as it is. End even with blatant, clear, and simple-to-follow directions...people still futz it up. B
Correct me if I'm wrong but setting up an Allstar node doesnt set up an Echolink node. You must already have an Echolink node to embed into the Allstar node. So you must already have a call sign to get an Echolink node number right? And you must also have a call sign to have an Allstar node right? So how does having an Echolink node embedded into your Allstar node have to do with non licensed people getting into Echolink? I dont have any Echolink nodes so I dont know but just asking. Or is the problem the cross linking voip systems thing? Ahh just love the politics. Next thing you know the Dstar crowd will be banning analog bridges.... wait they are! Allstar does everything Echolink does and IRLP too and more. So that's why I dont bother with Echolink. I have IRLP on a separate system but its almost never used. Time for the rest of the word to migrate to Allstar. VA3RQ On 9/6/2014 8:33 AM, Geoff wrote:
