The ETSNJ runs 2 repeaters on a Raspberry Pi using an ultra high speed SD-card. After a restart, the repeaters are fine for 2-3 weeks, then we begin hearing a clicking sound on the audio. As time goes on, this progresses until the clicking becomes brief audio interruptions. It seems like something is using up processor cycles, causing re-clocking of the audio stream. I know that clearing the log file helps, but the symptoms will still appear over time. I have been restarting Asterisk once a week to keep the audio clean, but there is still some audio dropouts at times. Does anyone have an idea about what could be causing this?
I used to have this issue and I've posted here about it without a resolution and the problem is exactly as you described. Here is what I can tell you. I had this happen on two repeaters and here is what I had in common. 1. Both running DSP (I was using software to generate PL) 2. Older versions of software. I have since upgraded software to latest version and I no longer use DSP and use the repeaters internal PL. I never bothered trying to figure out the problem any further. Mostly because I have interest less focused on deployment of analog systems and doing the above steps gives me good audio.
