Your best bet for a master on the Pi is to listen to 0.0.0.0 That way a 
external peer will be able to connect on the Ip address of the ethernet 
interface. A peer running on the Pi trying to connect to that master on 
127.0.0.1 will also be able to connect. play_back (parrot) is a example 
of that kind of peer.
