You shall get a bunch of opinions here but it does depends on how
inexpensive is inexpensive to you.
Here is my opinion if you have 450 to spend,
Use hamtronics rx and exciter... learn and reuse in actual repeater.
They hold their value better than some other new equipment if you can
believe that. The rx's are very sensitive .12mv/12db sinad.
I use both the old rock bound units and the newer tunable synthesized
units and they both work great. Buy them wired and tested and they come
tuned for your freq. Easy to repair.
The rock bound units are no longer sold.
Sometimes a good deal found on ebay. But you better know what you are
buying. They make these in the commercial freq splits also.
ebay has a large selection of motorola gm300's and maxtrac/ameritrac but
you will need to be able to program them and sensitivity is .20 - .34mv
unless you break-out tech manual to re-align specific. And again you
need to know what you are buying here also. Not all work in amateur
areas. Could be the best cheap option if you can get them programed.
