Agree with you, but these would still work great for Xipar remote receivers that PTT isn't required!

I just ordered 8 of them.

The biggest question is: Are these CM108's the "potted" variety that cannot be modified for PTT use, or are they actual IC's where one can access and solder to the pins? The only way to tell is to crack the case.
