[App_rpt-users] Windows 10 & Webtransceiver

Well actually I am not waiting. I just have my foot in both doors. I would probably keep a Windows system around just in case I needed it or until I was sure the Linux box would solve all my needs. The problem is that there are several ham radio applications and manufacturers drivers written only for windows like rig interface SW etc. In some cases Wine may work but not all. One program I like sdr-radio is a great windows application but the author has said it will never be written for Linux.

It does look like Java is eventually going away though for web applications so the web transceiver is probably going to fade away also. It is basically broken now in that it does not know about the IRLP change and displays any 4xxxxx address as IRLP.

Just curious why you are waiting? I dumped all things windows about
18 years ago, and have never looked back. I originally moved to
Linux, but since have moved to OSX and Freebsd my only Linux boxes
are Raspberry Pi's the move from Linux to FreeBSD revolved around
licensing and the separation between base operating system and user
software.. Any software that has a billion dollar business
revolving around protecting built in security holes does not belong
    anywhere on my hardware

      regards.. Fred

      Tim,

This article might help. Sounds like its time to switch to
Linux! Once Win7 loses support I am headed in that direction.

Be aware before you upgrade to Windows 10. The
new browser in Windows 10, Edge has no extensions support.
So Java won't run and thus the Allstar Webtransceiver will
            not work.

Looks like there's a chance Firefox will work. Java did
download but I wasn't able to get it running as a Firefox
extension. Perhaps I was just missing a setting some
              where. Will continue to experiment.
