[App_rpt-users] VPN or other option?

Is it possible to set a portable node up to where you do not have to access
the router and do port forwarding where you connect it to be able to gain
operability?   Could a VPN be set to do tunneling to say, your home QTH and
bypass this step?    I have not done any VPN work in linux.
