Evidently, I failed to mention rpt.conf *had* two other pseudo nodes.
in a series of last ditch attempts (one more again! Dammit, does this
work? No?! WTF?! Let's try this! Not it either?! man....)
nodesetup.sh was run and configs were downloaded from the ASL portal.
Interesting to note that while 29314 is a DAHDI/pseudo node, there is
text for 29314 in simpleusb.conf. Um?
Yes, it works now, however, missing many line items in rpt.conf that
came with DIAL 8.5.
I would like to understand what simpleusb-tune-menu is looking for, and
what else changed in my particular case when configs were downloaded
from ASL portal versus what came stock with DIAL 8.5.
I'm tired, but we'll see what else I can break tomorrow.

P.S. Almighty code maintainers, PLEASE do not take my lamenting as a
