alright, so things did NOT go as planned with a fresh install.

This is the lovely message I get, and I got it once before, only to
have solved, if memory recalls, by doing a complete re-install. Of
which I do NOT want to do again.

I've had this issue in the past, in 2013, and the issue never got
solved.

FWIW, the URI was plugged in during the install and when running
firsttime.sh

I've tried simpleusb_tune_usb.conf and simpleusb_tune_usb_28569.conf
with and without contents.

Asterisk just dies, and tune menu does not start.
